- The first child, Daniel Webster, was born in 1869. He learned the carpenter trade and worked with his father for many years. When past middle age he secured a job as freight agent with the Pennsylvania Railroad in Howard from which he retired. He sort of looked after the children later and did the punishment when necessary. He never married and spent most of his spare time at the telephone exchange where he helped with the repair work. I remember one thing that happened during his life, that is hard to believe. He had bought a new saw and it disappeared. Finally he went to a fortune teller and she told him whene to look for the saw. He found it it in a pile of lumber. In his later days he contracted tuberculosis from which he died in 1928.
