    • Betty L. Sharer September 7, 1930 May 2, 2015 Betty Louise (Glasgow) Sharer, age 84, passed peacefully from this life on Saturday, May 2, 2015. Born on September 7, 1930, to the late Evelyn Blanche (Armstrong) Glasgow and William Robert Glasgow, Betty grew up an only child on her parent's farm. A graduate of Centre Hall-Potter High School she married the late Marion J. Sharer on June 2, 1948. Betty and Marion celebrated 57 years of marriage before his passing in 2005. Together they raised five children. Betty played basketball at Centre Hall-Potter High School and often spoke of her 22-point game as a highlight of her career. A fan of Penns Valley Girls Softball, she attended many games during her retirement. Betty greatly enjoyed being around others and volunteered her time in many ways to the benefit of young and old alike. In recent years you would have found her calling BINGO at Wynwood House at Penns Valley. For over 15 years, she worked outside the home as a bindery clerk at Josten's Printing and Publishing, State College taking great pride in her work ethic, quality and years of service. More recently Betty enjoyed lunches with the "Tuesday Lunch Club" members and daily visits with friends at the Centre Hall Post Office. She often frequented Confers Market for the daily special or Snappy's for a Subway sandwich. Another favorite dining establishment was Brody's for an egg sandwich or late day pie and coffee. When in State College her car was preprogrammed to stop at Meyer's Dairy for a mexi-hot and ice cream. Betty was a very strong-minded and independent woman doing what she wanted, when she wanted, and how she wanted. She lived as she believed and set examples for her family, teaching all to give more than you receive. For many years she attended Emanuel Lutheran and Reformed Church, Tusseyville. Most recently she returned her membership to St. Luke Lutheran Church, Centre Hall, where she was baptized, confirmed and married. Betty is survived by her two sons, William Sharer and wife Carolyn, of Centre Hall, and Steven Sharer and wife Judy, of Corry; three daughters, Linda Foust and husband Daniel, of Weir, Texas, Susan Cloninger and husband Richard, of Apex, N.C., and Lisa Leake and husband Don, of Pittsburgh; three grandsons, Danan Sharer and wife Jody, of Bellefonte, Nicholas Long, of Carnegie, and Benjamin Long, of Downingtown; two granddaughters, Erica Haley and husband Tommy, of Georgetown, Texas, and Latisha Stefanko, of Philipsburg; two step-grand- daughters, Victoria Barlow and husband Michael, of Ramstein, Germany, and Kristen Leake, of Moon; one step-grandson, Casey Cloninger, of Durham, N.C. who preceded her in death; and 12 great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2015, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 301 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Centre Hall, with the Reverend Scott Klimke officiating. The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the fellowship hall of the church. Burial will be in the Emmanuel Lutheran and Reformed Cemetery in Tusseyville following the reception of friends and fellowship time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Luke Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 331, Centre Hall, PA 16828.
