- Susan Janice Charney, 68 of Howard, passed away on Monday, July 4, 2016 with her family by her side at her home. She was born on April 29, 1948, in Lock Haven, Pa. the daughter of the late George B. and Audrey Strunk Long.
On July 16, 1972 she married William Michael Charney at the Walnut Street Church of Christ in Howard. He survives at home.
Susan was a graphic designer with Josten's of State College. Prior to that, she was a floral designer for shops in Lock Haven and Bellefonte. She retired in 2015, from Howard Elementary as an aide, math tutor, and various other positions.
She was a member of the Howard Christian Church.
She was a former Girl Scout leader and tutored students in math.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, particularly with her grandchildren. She enjoyed making floral arrangements for people, as well as tending to her garden. She was an avid Grange Fair attendee and had gone every year for the past 68 years.
Along with her husband she is survived by two daughters; Shannon Rebecca (Jon) Gall, of Medina, Ohio and Erin Elilzabeth (Matthew) McKean, of Bellefonte, one sister; Betsy Jill (Jeff) Snyder of Howard, five grandchildren; Brooke and Matthew Chareny, Bailey, George Finnegan and Bridget McKean, and her mother-in-law; Mattie Charney of Houtzdale.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at The Howard Christian Church, 367 Walnut St., Howard with the Pastor Willard "Gib" Strunk officiating. Friends and family will be received from 5 - 8:00 p.m. on Monday, July 11, 2016 at the Kader-Neff Funeral Home, 135 Main Street, Howard. Burial will be at the Schencks Cemetery in Howard Twp.
