Hyrum Sessions
Hyrum Sessions, 70, retired contractor and building inspector for the city of Bountiful, died Monday at 3 a. m. at a Salt Lake hospital, after a short illness.
Mr. Sessions was the father of Leland Sessions, assistant cashier of the Bountiful State bank. He was a son of Perrigrine Sessions, founder of the city of Bountiful, and Sarah Ann Bryson Sessions, and was born on May 2, 1873 in Bountiful. Mr. Sessions married the late Laura Thompson in the Salt Lake temple on September 20, 1894. Nearly 45 years later, on May 31, 1939, he married Elizabeth Bonham, who survives. Mrs. Sessions is very ill at the present time.
A well known contractor for 40 years in Davis county, Mr. Sessions for several years, was building inspector of Bountiful city, until last fall. He was a former justice of the peace in Bountiful, and a charter member of the Bountiful volunteer department. He served some time as president of the Barton Creek Irrigation, president of the State Firemen's association, and was a charter member of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers, Bountiful camp.
Active in the LDS ward where he resided, Mr. Sessions was a teacher in the high priests' quorum at the time of his death and had served as president of the elders' quorum for 15 years. In earlier life, he was president of the MIA in Bountiful.
Besides his wife and son, Leland Sessions of Bountiful, he is survived by nine brothers and six sisters, Lieutenant Colonel Alvin Sessions, Ezra, Thomas, Wallace, and Orson Sessions all of Bountiful; Calvin Sessions of Farmington, P. G. Sessions of Idaho Falls, Ida.; James Sessions of Clearfield and Harvey Sessions of Logan; Mrs. Patty Scott of Lovell, Wyo.; Mrs. Olivia Waddoups of Honolulu, Mrs. Susie Neath of Bountiful; Mrs. Olive Howells of Los Angeles, Cal.; Mrs. Lillie Egan and Mrs. Zina Burningham of Salt Lake City; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday at 2 p. m. in Bountiful Third ward, with Amby Briggs, bishop, officiating. Burial was in Bountiful cemetery, directed by the Union Mortuary of Bountiful.
