- Timothy R. Gates, 73, of Howard, passed away on Monday, March 09, 2015 at his home. Born on July 23, 1941, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Raymond A. and Joyce Leathers Gates. On October 20, 1962, at the Kennedy United Methodist Church in Howard, he married Maxine C. McCartney who survives at home.
Tim was a 1959 graduate of Bald Eagle Area High School. He attended the Stevens Trade School, studying Masonry. He attended the Curtin United Methodist Church.
Tim owned Gates Construction. He was a skilled mason and excavator. For a long time, he was the youngest member of the Mason Union. Before starting his business, he worked for Cerro Metal in Bellefonte, in the Tool & Dye Department.
Tim was an avid hunting. He treasured the times he spent in the woods. He enjoyed all sports, going for rides in his car, and spending time with his family and friends. He adored his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was a member the Nation Wild Turkey Federation and the Wheeling Sportsman Club.
Tim is survived by his wife, four daughters; Kimberly D. Flick and her husband, Stacy, of Howard, Katherine J. Gates-Moore and her husband, Paul, of State College, Karman M. Gates and her fiancé, David Moyer, of Howard, and Kandace L. Hawkins and her husband, Len, of Dubois, nine grandchildren; Karey Walk, S. Ross Flick, Nicholas Pistone, Maria Pistone, Kayla Flick, Megan Flick, Katie-Rose Flick, Alayna Hawkins, and Jared Hawkins, and six great grandchildren; Lydia Walk, twins; Garrett and Addison Flick, twins; Carson and Mason Walk, and Elliana Arway.
Also surviving Tim are his two brothers; Thomas A. Gates and his wife, Charlotte, and Samuel W. Gates and his wife, Shirley, both of Howard, and one sister, Judith S. Shiffler of Winchester, VA.
Along with his parents, Tim was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph R. Gates and a sister, Margaret A. Long.
Visitation will be on Thursday, March 12, 2015 from 6-8pm at the Kader-Neff Funeral Home in Howard. Funeral services will be on Friday, March 13, 2015 at 11am at the Mount Eagle Church of Christ, 276 Nursery Rd, Howard, PA. Burial will be at Eagle Cemetery, Howard Twp.
