- Joseph R. Gates, 76 of Howard, passed away Thursday, April 22, 2010 at his home. He was born on January 25, 1934 in Howard the son of the late Raymond and Joyce Leathers Gates. He married Sandra Bechdel, they have been married for over 51 years, she survives at home. Joe retired from Cerro Metal after over 30 years of service. He was of the Methodist Faith. He served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Howard VFW and he also played with the Back Porch String Band. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by one daughter; Billie Jo Weaver of Howard, one son; Timothy L. Gates of Columbus, Ohio. one sister; Judith Shiffler of Winchester, Va., three brothers; Thomas, Timothy, and Samuel Gates all of Howard. He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Long. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren; Toni and John Dreese and Brfandi Weaver Gates, two great-grandchildren; Debra and James Weaver. Services will Sunday, April 25, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Kader-Neff Funeral Home, 135 W. Main Street, Howard, Pa. with the Pastor Doug Mellott officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, April 24, 2010 from 6 – 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Schencks Cemetery, Howard. Memorial contributions may be made to the Runville United Methodist Church, 1216 Runville Rd., Bellefonte, Pa. 16823
