    • The Sharetts family also has a strong history in the Gettysburg area. The original immigrant to the United States was Jacob (married to Elizbeth Rausch) who came from Germany and died in York, Pennsylvania in 1786.

His grandson, Jesse Sharetts, moved to Barlow, Adams County. He was married to Rachel Eyler, (Eyler is another common name in the area). The Sharetts family was instrumental in the creation of the Mt. Joy Lutheran Church, a few miles outside of Gettysburg. "The congregation was organized on July 22, 1851. Jacob Maring Sr. donated the land. A third deed dated May 28, 1887 was signed by John Sharetts, Jacob E. Sharetts, Rebecca Spangler Sharetts as executers of the
      Matilda B. Spangler estate."

Jacob Eyler Sharetts was the son of Jesse and Rachel Sharetts. Jacob and his wife, Rebecca Margaret Spangler, lived their entire life in the Gettysburg area. Their children were Bertha Ann, Oliver Beard, Luetta, Dorothy Margaret, Maurice Jesse and Carrie.

Carrie Sharetts became the wife of Samuel Weikert at the Mt. Joy Lutheran Church in 1900. At the time of their marriage Samuel David Weikert was "the ever popular letter carrier of Rt. #2" and "Miss Carrie Sharetts was the organist of the Mt. Joy Church."

Carrie and Samuel Weikert bought a house at 230 Steinwehr Avenue in Gettysburg, where they lived for nearly fifty years. This house was sold in 1950, eventually torn down and "sadly" replaced by the Colton Motel. It was located directly across from the Gettysburg National Cemetery. The Weikert's children were Wilbur Levi, Margaret Rebecca (Lingg) and Nelson Jacob.

Nelson Jacob (Jake) Weikert grew up in Gettysburg and graduated from Gettysburg College. He left Gettysburg to teach in Howard, PA, but returned to marry Sarah Louise Gardner at the St. James Lutheran Church in Gettysburg.
