  Fred C. Schaefer Jr., 83, of Loyalsock Township, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center. He was born in Williamsport on May 22, 1929, the son of Fred and Carrie (Osman) Schaefer. Fred was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church. He graduated from Williamsport High School in 1948, and played professional baseball for several years before he was drafted and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952 and 1953. Upon returning home, he worked for the Business Men's Press in Williamsport and played baseball and softball on local teams for many years. He sold printing products for Penn Graphics out of Harrisburg. He attained an associate degree from Williamsport Area Community College and worked for Penn College of Technology for 24 years. Fred served as advisor for a social fraternity at PCT. He was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame and coached little league baseball. Fred was an active boy scout and served as a scout leader for many years. Fred served as Chaplain for both the DuBoistown V.F.W. and the Lycoming County VA Association; served many years as Commander for the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County, published their newsletter, and folded the American flag at more than 800 military funerals. He loved playing golf, fishing and painting. He enjoyed sharing nearly 46 years of marriage to Marian E. (Avery) Schaefer and is survived by children, David W. (Elizabeth) Lentz, Allentown, Pa., Douglas (Pamela) Lentz, Chambersburg, Pa., and Sandra Lentz (Roderick) Strother Hughesville, Pa.; and sister, Marlene (David) Bertin Ivyland, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his sister, Naomi (Joe) Sidler.
