- Richard I. Berkebile of Highland, Calif., passed away on June 4, 2007 in Redlands Hospital, Redland, Calif. He was born Aug. 16, 1941 in Philadelphia, the son of the late Lamar H. Berkebile and Ellen Berkebile of Lock Haven. He is survived by his wife, Janet; two daughters, Sherie Berkebile and Julie Bioratto (Jose); four stepchildren, Chad, Shawn, Shane and Heather Lutz; and four grandchildren, all of California. He is also survived by his brother, Harold L. Berkebile of California and a sister, Barbara Elling (Tom) of Lock Haven. He was predeceased by a brother, Jay Berkebile. Rich was a graduate of Lock Haven High School in 1959. He entered the U.S. Army following graduation and upon his discharge, he moved to California. He retired from the Teamsters Union in 1995. Rich was well known for his woodworking skills. He made jewelry boxes and briefcases using rare and exotic woods. A memorial service will be held on June 22 at 1 p.m. in Faith Chapel United Methodist Church, 551 Hunter Run Road, Howard. Intermenet will follow at Schenck's Cemetery, Howard. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Rich's name may be made to Faith Chapel or his church in California, Church of the Valley, 26597 East Baseline Road, Highland, Ca. 92346.
