    • Sarah Charlotte Beisel Cheesman, of Selinsgrove, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 4, 2014. A native of South Williamsport, she was born March 16, 1918.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Edward Cheesman Sr.; parents, William and Minnie Beisel; daughter, Sandra Sturm; and brothers William, Daniel Lloyd and Frank.

She is survived by her children, Judy Wise (Jim) and Paul Cheesman Jr. (Kathryn). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jim Wise (Karen), Michael Wise (Allyson), Karen Macedo, Kim Fleet (Jessiah), Paul Cheesman III (Heather), Deborah Doyle (James), Alison Ward (Michael), Jason Smith (Glynda), and Ashley Higginson (Todd). Charlotte had the following great-grandchildren: Joseph Wise, Maddy Beech, Sebastian Wise, Daniel Macedo, Samuel Fleet, Alex and Brandon Cheesman, Hunter and Peyton Doyle, Michaela and Watts Ward, Logan and Liam Smith and Kyle and Natalie Higginson. She worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone for several years. After raising her three children, she worked for Sears and Roebuck as a purchase order clerk for 10 years. She and her husband, Paul took many trips abroad; enjoying trips to England, Switzerland, Brazil, Germany, and especially a ride on a camel in the Canary Islands. She was very active in the Order of Eastern Star. Charlotte was a Worthy Matron for Williamsport Chapter 321 and served as District Deputy Grand Matron, and enjoyed many activities with her fellow Matrons. An avid reader, she accumulated many books and donated her vast collection to various libraries for the enjoyment of others.

Charlotte always made others feel comfortable and welcome in her home and her presence. It was her gift to all of us. Her family and home were always very important to her. She worked with many charities and was very involved in her community and Church. Gram was in every sense of the word, an encourager. Whether by letter, phone call or kind deed, she conveyed her love and gave hope and support to others in good times and times of challenge. She truly lived by the words on her kitchen plaque, “The way to have a friend is to be one.” Rest in peace, Dear One.

Many thanks to the staff of the Manor at Penn Village, who treated Charlotte with respect and love in her final years. Special appreciation to Yvonne Lenhard, Nancy Frymoyer, Dawn Clark, and Jessica Hockenberg.

Her internment will be held at Schenk Cemetery, Howard.
