- Richard “Dick” A. Kunes, 79, of Beech Creek passed away Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015, at his home.
Richard was born in Howard on Feb. 23, 1935, a son of the late Samuel H. and Alice Hinton Kunes.
He was married to Helen Kunes of Howard, who survives.
Richard was a graduate of Lock Haven High School.
Dick was a corrections officer at the State Correctional Institution at Rockview. He retired after 22 years of service.
Dick proudly served his country as a member of the 101st Airborne, U.S. Army.
He was a member of the Beech Creek American Legion.
Dick was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed woodworking and tending to his garden.
He is survived by two daughters, Debra (Charles) Mitchell of Beech Creek and Barbara (Ronnie) Young of Bellefonte; three sons, DuWayne (Sue) Kunes of Lock Haven, Steven (Valrie) Kunes of Middleburg and Daniel (Nicole) Kunes of Beech Creek; and a sister, Beverly (Michael) Doebler of Flemington.
Dick is also survived by his companion, Kathryn Shuey; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his dog Missy.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Samuel Kunes Jr.
Funeral services for Dick will be held Friday, Feb. 13, 2015, at 3 p.m. at Kader-Neff Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 135 W. Main St., Howard, with Rev. Alan S. Eckenroad officiating.
Family and friends will be received Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of the services at the funeral home.
