- Nelle A. Pletcher, 85, of Jersey Shore, formerly of Howard, Lock Haven and Avis, passed peacefully from this world to her eternal home at Manor Care in Jersey Shore, Saturday, June 16, 2007. Born Nov. 24, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Lester and Catherine Confer Wyland.
She attended Howard Elementary School and was a 1939 graduate of Howard High School. During World War II, she worked at Sylvania in Mill Hall, then at Widmann's drug store in Lock Haven. She retired from Addie's in Lock Haven in 1996 after 20 years of service. Nelle was a former member of the Walnut Street Church of Christ, Howard, until 1984, when she transferred her membership to the First Church of Christ, Lock Haven. While at Walnut Street, she taught Sunday school and served on the church board. At First Church of Christ, she was a member of the Cheerful Gleaners Sunday School Class and served on the women's council. She had a strong faith and love of God and His church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, reading, word puzzles and the sights of nature.
In recent years, she was happy with her extended family at Manor Care, especially the caring staff and participating in the numerous activities. She is survived by a daughter, Linda P. Friant and husband David of Avis; and two brothers, William S. Wyland and wife "Sis" of Lock Haven and Harold R. Wyland, also of Lock Haven. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ben.
Services will be held Wednesday, June 23, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the W. Robert Neff Funeral Home, 135 W. Main St., Howard. Pastors Ted Van Schloick and Kenneth Geisewite will officiate. Burial will be in Romola Christian Cemetery, Curtin Township. Visition will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
