- Dean E. Thompson January 12, 1940 - August 28, 2011 Dean E. Thompson, 71, of Howard, died Sunday, August 28, 2011, at Lock Haven Hospital Emergency Room. He was born in Howard on Jan. 12, 1940, a son of the late Roy C. and Catherine Holt Thompson. On Nov. 9, 1968, he married Sharon C. Miller, who survives at home. He was a 1958 graduate of Bald Eagle Area High School. He proudly served his country in the US Army, serving in Vietnam. Dean worked for many years at Hammermill Paper until its' closing in 1987, then with Claster's in State College, and was currently a van driver for Centre County Government. He was a member of Faith Chapel United Methodist Church in Howard. He was a member of the Pennsylvania State Fox & Coyote Hunter's Association, the Oak Flat Hunting Club, the Beech Creek American Legion, and the Howard V.F.W. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed running his hunting dogs. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Barbara Shultz (Shawn), of Howard; one son, Alan D. Thompson, of Howard; one sister Florence McClure, of Milesburg; three brothers, Art, Earl, and Paul Thompson; and two granddaughters, Alexa and Joslyn "Josey". He was preceded in death by three brothers, Sheldon, Lee, and Leonard, and three sisters, Martha, Lola, and Midge. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2011, at Noon at Kader-Neff Funeral Home, 135 W. Main St., Howard with Pastor Terry N. Daugherty officiating. Burial will be in Schenck's Cemetery in Howard. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10 a.m. until Noon. Memorial contributions may be sent to Faith Chapel U.M.C., 551 Hunter Run Road, Howard, PA 16841.
