Temperance E. (Hall) Loder, widow of Philip B. Loder, of Howard, Centre County, died Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Centre County Hospital, Bellefone. She was admitted Dec. 4, following an accident in which her hip was fractured. She was born at Howard Sept. 10, 1860, the daughter of J. Newlin and Susanna (Albaugh) Hall.
Mrs. Loder is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Ida Johnson of Platteville, Colo., Mrs. Alice H. Stiffler of Hollidaysburg R.D. 2, and Mrs. Mollie H. Bolich of Howard, also by the following nieces and nephews: Mrs. Grace Johnson O'Neill of Platteville, Colo, Newlin and Arthur Johnson of Hutchison, Kans., Alice (Johnson) Kimball of California, Blair C. Hall and Lillian (Hall) Brown of Harrisburg, Harry P. Hall of Greensboro, S.C., May (Hall) Bentz of York, and Olive T. Stiffler of Geeseytown.
Mrs. Loder was educated in the public schools and teachers' normals. She began teaching when quite young and followed the profession until her marriage to Mr. Loder, having taught in Centre, Clinton and Blair counties, also several terms in Iowa and Illinois.
While teaching the Hazel Ridge school in Linn county, Iowa, it was the custom to hold debating exercises. James Good, who later became secretary of war, was one of her regular debaters.
After her marriage to Mr. Loder, they resided in Pittsburgh 20 years. After Mr. Loder's retirement they purchased a farm at Lamar, where they resided until Mr. Loder's death, when Mrs. Loder moved to Howard.
She was a past lecturer of the Lamar grange and member of the Methodist church at Howard.
Friends are being received at the Neff funeral home, Howard.
