Gatesburg, Pennsylvania - Genevieve L. "Jenny" Barto, 96, of Gatesburg passed away October 3, 2024 at Embassy Hearthside in State College. She was born August 12, 1928 at the family farm in Gatesburg, the daughter of Clair and Blanche (Rossman) Burns. On October 20, 1946 in Altoona she married Eddie Barto. He died December 9, 2018. They were married for 72 years.
She is survived by daughters Diane Snyder of Gatesburg and Janet Biddle of Warriors Mark, son Sherwin and wife Kathy Barto of Grand Junction, Colorado, 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren, and sister Freda Barto of Gatesburg. She was preceded in death by sister Leona Markle and brothers Albert, Harold and Kenny, an infant daughter and a great grandchild.
She was a 1946 graduate of State College Area High School. She worked at the State College High School cafeteria for 25 years before retiring. She was a member of the Gatesburg Lutheran Church. She and her late husband enjoyed traveling out west and to Florida. She had a heart of gold and was loving and caring to everyone. She loved watching the birds and deer in her back yard.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 7, at 11 a.m. at Ross Church, 2076 Marengo Road, Warriors Mark with Pastor Samuel Reese officiating. Interment will follow in Ross Cemetery. Frends will be received on Sunday, October 6, from 2 to 5 at the Bruce E. Cox Funeral Home and on Monday, October 7, at Ross Church from 10 until the time of services at 11.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ross Cemetery Association, c/o Diane Snyder, 2115 W. Gatesburg Rd., Warriors Mark, PA 16877.
