    • Eddie Russell Barto December 16, 1919 December 9, 2018 Eddie Russell Barto, 98, of 1718 W. Gates-burg Road, Warriors Mark, passed away on December 9, 2018, at Juniper Village, Brookline, State College following a brief illness. He was born December 16, 1919, in Marengo, the son of Gilbert and Elsie (Wrye) Barto. He was married to Genevieve (Jenny) Burns on October 20, 1946, at the Altoona Church of the Brethren by Rev. Randall Rossman. Surviving are his wife of 72 years; daughter Diane (David) Snyder, of Gatesburg, daughter Janet (Harold) Biddle, of Warriors Mark, son Sherwin (Kathy) Barto, of Grand Junction, Colo.; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; sister Joyce (Don) Fink, of Sinking Valley, sister Leona Smith, of Marengo and brother Donald (Ruth) Barto, of Quakertown. He was preceded in death by a great granddaughter; two sisters and a brother. He attended the Marengo One Room, Ferguson Township and Port Matilda schools. He served in the Army during WWII from 1941-1945, in the Pacific and European Theaters in the 372nd Motor Company. He worked for Gravely Power Equipment for 29 years and others before retiring in 1985. He was a lifetime member of the Ross United Methodist Church where he was the "Sunday morning bell ringer". He taught Sunday School and was treasurer of the church. He was caretaker of Ross Cemetery for 35 years and secretary/ treasurer for 51 years. He loved the Lord and read his Bible daily. He enjoyed gardening, growing sweet potatoes, hunting, fishing and the outdoors. Also, metal detecting and woodworking. Friends will be received on Friday, December 14, 2018, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Cox Funeral Home and on Saturday at Ross United Methodist Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Norman Hooven and Rev. Gene McCallips officiating. Interment will follow in Ross Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Ross Cemetery Association, c/o Diane Snyder, 2115 W. Gatesburg Rd., Warriors Mark, PA 16877. Arrangements are under the direction of the Bruce E. Cox Funeral Home, 3784 Warriors Mark Path, Warriors Mark, PA 16877.
