    • Ernest D. Barto, 85, formerly of Pine Grove Mills, died Friday, May 16, 2008, at Epworth Manor Retirement Home, Tyrone. Born Sept. 12, 1922, in Pennsylvania Furnace, he was a son of Marshall and Ruth Gearhart Barto. On Feb. 18, 1946, he married Lois Schilling, who survives. He attended State College High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a sergeant. He worked for Penn State for over 22 years and retired in 1984 as the manager and supervisor of the Meat Department. He was a life member and past president of the Pine Groves Mills Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 5825 and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and gardening. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Charles E. Barto and his wife, Helen, of Tyrone; three daughters, Jo-Ann Dreibelbis and her husband, Albert Jr., of Pennsylvania Furnace, Irene Meeker, of Milesburg, and Janet Holderman and her husband, Donald, of Mount Union; as well as 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by a brother, Eugene Barto. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2008, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at Pine Grove Mills Presbyterian Church, 150 W. Pine Grove Road, Pine Grove Mills, with the Rev. Carl Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Mills Cemetery.
