  Letter dated Dec 5, 1864 from Samuel W. Hirlinger to John M. Hirlinger Samuel is in McClellan U.S. General Hospital, Ward 13, Philadelphia At this time, John is serving in Washinton, DC in the 50th NY Volunteer Engineer regiment. Samuel mentions that his he had been back in Fairmount and everything looked "old fashioned". He also mentions that his arm is not yet healed and that he might be in the hospital until his enlistment is up on Jan 18, 1865. He asks John to write back and asks him if he knows anything of Henry or Christian. I'll assume that Christian is Christian Gottfreid and that Henry is another brother. Listed in the J F Diffenbacher's Directory of Pittsburgh and Allegheny Cities as a boilermaker at 2 Market Alley
