  BIRTH: date derived from obit. Death date given and age in years, months and days Article in the Democratic Watchman 26 Oct 1883 DEATH OF THE VENERABLE ROBERT HALL. - This aged and excellent man died in Union township, this count on the 10th of the present month of October 1883, having reached the extreme age of 82 years, nine months and 16 days. An old acquaintance sends us a notice of his death, signed "C" from which we glean the following information concerning him; "The deceased was a son of Hon. John Hall, one of the first members of the legislature elected in Centre county, and was one of the first white children born in Bellefonte. A blacksmith by occupation and an excellent workman he was often employed by the proprietors of some of the largest manufactories in this section and always enjoyed the respect and esteem of his employers. The writer made his acquaintance over 58 years ago, and during that long period kept up a casual correspondence with an occasional visit, and always found him a cheerful and pleasant companion and one of the most even-tempered and conscientious men he ever met. When about 25 years of age he had the misfortune, while at work hauling saw-logs, to have an ankle crushed, which caused him continual pain and anxiety, frequently disabling him from active employment, but he still labored when able and raised a large family of sturdy sons and daughters, most of whom are settled in the immediate vicinity of the old homestead, at the mouth of Dick's Run, about a mile from Unionville. He was a constant attendant on religious services when able, and for years looked forward with a calm eye and trusting heart, for the time of his departure, in the full hope of a blessed immortality. He lived and died universally respected and lamented by a sorrowing family, his friends and neighbors, and was one of the grandest creations of the god he worshipped, "An honest man." Mr. Hall was a brother of Jesse Hall who died many years ago, and was an uncle of Mrs. Hannah Ward, Mrs. Mary Crosthwaite, Mrs. Priscilla Bell, and Mrs. Sheriff Kline, of this place.
