- Mary Ann (Mayberry) Hirlinger, 83, of Burwell, Nebraska formerly of Ord died on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at the Valley County Health System at Ord, Nebraska.
Mary was born January 16, 1939, to Harold and Clara (Lowery) Mayberry in rural Garfield County, Nebraska. Mary and family moved from their ranch north of Ericson to Burwell in 1951 when she was in the 7th grade. Mary graduated from Burwell High School in 1956. She attended nursing college at Mary Lanning in Hastings then switched to business school later being employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, DC.
Mary met Kenneth Hirlinger in Washington, DC, while he was serving his country as a United States Naval officer and the couple was married on February 23, 1960. During his career, they traveled/lived in many parts of the world. During that duration, Mary was a devoted mother of their three sons. Later she worked for the City of Woodbridge, VA. In 2006, they moved to Ord, Nebraska to enjoy their retirement. Mary lived at Grandview in Ord, Nebraska for six years then in 2021, moved to the Assisted Living and Nursing Home at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell, Nebraska.
Mary was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed the art of quilt making. She was a Christian matriarch and loved her church and the various Methodist Women’s activities. She cherished the friendships of her Red Hat Club members and their various outings. She became an avid cheerleader for her nieces and nephews many activities while learning how to score wrestling and volleyball matches, attending musical concerts as well as watching goat and dog show events.
Mary is survived by two sons, Michael (Sue) Hirlinger of Ord, NE, Kenneth Jr (Charon) Hirlinger of Smithfield, VA; daughter-in-law, Ramona Hirlinger of Newport News, VA; grandchildren, Jerry (Kayla) Herron of Navarre, FL, Alex Herron of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Sean (Erica) Hirlinger of Mt. Dora, FL, Lauren (Matt Harvell) of Edgewater, FL, John Walter (Nick) Hirlinger of Burbank, CA, Anne Hirlinger of Pensacola, FL; great-grandsons, Gage Herron, Logan Herron, Avery Herron, and Bradley Hirlinger; a sister, Marilyn (Jim) Svoboda of Ord; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Clara Mayberry; husband, Kenneth Hirlinger Sr.; son, David Hirlinger; and brother, Harold (Skeeter) Mayberry.
A private interment graveside service will be held June 25, 2022; at Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell, Nebraska.
