- Life-Long Resident of near Flinton Expires Last Thursday
Last Thursday afternoon, September 2nd, Andrew W. Youngkin passed peacefully away at his home near Flinton. He had been ailing for the past five years, but did not give up his usual work until about a year ago. He suffered from dropsy. Andrew Youngkin was one of the best known farmers in this section. He was born on the old Youngkin homestead at Flinton on February 18th, 1844, and had lived there his entire life with the exception of one year, from 1866 to 1867, when he lived on the Weld farm in Beccaria township. Like most of the early settlers in this section, he also followed lumbering. Farming was his principal occupation and he was one of the few successful farmers of this section. Mr. Youngkin had many friends. He was a good, honest, hard working citizen, honored and esteemed by those who knew him. He was a kind husband and father, and a splendid neighbor and friend and will be missed by many. On November 14th, 1866 he was united in marriage to Miss Roseanna Heverly, who survives him. To their union were born nine children, all living, as follows: Mrs. A. T. Mellott, Mrs. Samuel Cowen, Coalport; Mrs. Ellery Lucas, Farwell; Mrs. Williams Marks, Beccaria township; Mrs. Stewart Gates, Beaver Valley; Miss Esther Youngkin, at home; Harry Youngkin, of Tyrone; David Youngkin, of Beaver Valley; and Lloyd Youngkin, of Altoona. One brother, Joseph Youngkin, of Iowa, and one sister, Mrs. Susan Fitzgibbons, of Flinton are living. Twenty grandchildren and two great-grandchildren are also living. Saturday morning at ten o'clock after brief services at the home, the remains were conveyed to the United Brethren church in Beaver Valley where services was conducted by Rev. J.F. Kelly, of the U.B. church, assisted by the Rev. J.T. Williamee, of the M.E. church. Interment followed in the Beaver Valley cemetery, undertaker C.J. Troxell, of Glasgow being in charge. The funeral was largely attended.
