- Clarence D. Johnston of Howard, a guard many years at Rockview Penitentiary, died Wednesday, January 1, 1958 at the Lock Haven Nursing Home at the age of 79. He had been ill much of the ten years since his retirement from his work at Rockview.
Mr. Johnston was born April 5, 1878 at Blanchard, son of William and Charolette Llewellyn Johnston. His wife, the former Blanche Elizabeth Schenck, died March 1, 1920.
He was survived by a daughter, Mrs. Vonda Taylor of Harrisburg, a teacher in the State College High School at State College; a son, W. Dean Johnston, Felton Delaware; a brother, Vernon L. Johnston, Jersey Shore.
He was a member of the Howard Methodist Church and the Howard I.O.O.F. lodge.
Services were held at the Neff Funeral Home, Howard, with the Reverend James W. Nottingham officiating.
Interment was in Schenck Cemetery.
