HERLINGER ? Fred W., 90, Paint Borough, formerly of Geistown, died Feb. 16, 2007, at Windber Medical Center. Born May 4, 1916, in Brush Valley, son of Harry Virgil Sr. and Ouida (Wiles) Herlinger. Preceded in death by parents and a brother, Dr. Harry Virgil Herlinger Jr. Survived by wife, the former Bessie J. Rowe, whom he married Dec. 30, 1938, and children, Eleanor C., wife of Terry Bisick, Schellsburg; Fred W. Jr., married to Lynda Burkett, Tarentum; Harry V., married to Gail Manross, Pittsburgh; and James A., Schellsburg. Also survived by eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and sister-in-law, Margaret Herlinger, Richland. A member of Belmont United Methodist Church, PSEA and NEA and life member of the NRA. Also an active member of the North-South Skirmish Association for 41 years. A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with the Class of 1938, where he was a member of the 1937 National Championship football team. An Army veteran of World War II. Fred taught chemistry and physics in various school districts and served as superintendent of the Richland School District from 1960 until his retirement in 1974. Friends received from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Henderson Funeral Home, East Hills, where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Pastor Merritt Edner. Interment, Richland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorial contributions to Windber Hospice.
