  Peter Holter was a son of William and Magdalene (Beard) Holter. He was born April 5, 1829, and died February 27, 1892 He secured an education in the common schools, and followed the occupation of farming until his death. He lived at home until he was twenty-five years old, when he began work for himself on the old Lighter farm, owned at that time by his father-in-law, Philip Coblentz. On part of this farm the Braddock Colony was built. After farming this place several years, Mr. Holter bought it from Mr. Coblentz. At that time there were 133 acres in the property, which he improved with a new house and barn. Here he resided the rest of his days. Mr. Holter voted the Democratic ticket. He was a member of the Middletown Reformed Church. Early in life he had been connected with Zion Reformed Church at Feagaville, where he acted as deacon and elder for a number of years. Mr. Holter was married to Mahalia Coblentz, daughter of Philip and Mary (Kefauver) Coblentz, of Middletown, District. They were the parents of eight children, seven of whom grew to maturity: 1. Charles E. of Middletown 2. William P., Braddock District 3. Mary, the wife of George D. Derr, of Middletown District 4. Samuel W., of Middletown 5. Ella 6. George M. 7. Harrity T. After her husband's death, Mrs. Holter remained on the farm, and with the aid of her children, cultivated the place successfully until 1897 when she disposed of the property to the Braddock Heights Development Company. She took up her residence in Middletown, where she lived in retirement.
