May 24, 1948 - October 14, 2024
Howard, Pennsylvania - Henry E. Brownson, 76, passed away on Monday, Oct, 14, 2024, at UPMC, Harrisburg.
Henry was born at home in Howard on May 24, 1948. He was the son of the late John and Marie (Boob) Brownson.
He was a 1967 graduate of Bald Eagle Area High School.
In 1964, Henry suffered a spinal cord injury which left him paralyzed, but he never let his disability hold him back.
After high school graduation he returned to the Johnstown Rehabilitation Center where he obtained his driver's license as well as a degree in business/accounting.
For many years, he worked with Gordon Confer in the Nationwide Insurance Company office in Howard. After Gordy's retirement, Henry opened an office in Bellefonte and independently ran a successful insurance and income tax business. In 2010, he closed his public office but continued to work from home until poor health forced him to retire in 2022 after more than 50 years in the business.
Henry enjoyed reading and fishing as well as visiting with people. He enjoyed traveling (especially fishing trips to Canada) and traveled extensively with siblings throughout the U.S. as well as Canada and Mexico.
There are no words to fully describe how Henry impacted the lives of so many people he encountered over the years and how much he accomplished in his life. He will surely be missed by many.
Henry is survived by three sisters, Ruth (Ed) Nyman, Deanna Brownson and Edie (Keith) Nyman, of Howard; four brothers, John (Lorraine); Jim (Wanda) and Dan (Kate), of Howard, and Ken (Susan), of Beech Creek. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Rupert and Ellen Gummo.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Rolling Hills Manor for their caring and compassion for Henry during the past two years.
