Pleasant Gap, Pennsylvania - Douglas "Doug" A. Leathers, 68, of Pleasant Gap, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2022, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Born on February 13, 1954, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Max B. and Pearl E. (Hall) Leathers. On May 17, 1980, in Lock Haven, he married the love of his life, Cathy (Wert) Leathers, who survives him at home after celebrating 42 years of marriage together.
Doug was a 1972 graduate of Bellefonte High School. He pursued his education further, graduating from Penn State with his master's degree in Public Administration. He worked as a Correction's Officer at SCI Rockview until he retired as Captain in 2004.
In addition to his wife, Cathy, he is survived by their two children, Erin L. White (Brian) of Bellefonte, and Lance A. Leathers (Kayla) of Cary, North Carolina, and four grandchildren, Jonathan and Brian M. White, Jr., and Morgan and Everett Leathers. Also surviving are two brothers, Richard Leathers (Helen) and Dennis Leathers (Bonita), both of Bellefonte, and a sister, Patricia Vargo (Gerald) of Julian.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Beverly Sampsell.
Doug was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Bellefonte. Additionally, he was a 30-year member of the Pleasant Gap Lions Club. He enjoyed reading and was very devoted to researching genealogy for the Leathers family. He would spend hours researching the family history. Doug was also an avid Pittsburgh sport fan and looked forward to when he was able to attend games and cheer on the Pirates, Steelers, and Penguins. Enthusiastically, he also enjoyed coaching youth sports for many years, including softball, basketball, baseball, and soccer.
There will be a public viewing held on Thursday, June 2, 2022, from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 3, 2022, at 11:00 A.M., at Faith United Methodist Church, 512 Hughes Street, Bellefonte, with Pastor Terry Daugherty officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
