Bellefonte, Pennsylvania - Thomas R. Gates, 42, of Bellefonte, passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2022. Born on June 27, 1979, in Lock Haven, he was the son of Thomas A. and Charlotte K. (Bottorf) Gates of Howard.
Tom was a 1997 graduate of Bald Eagle Area High School. He recently started working as a Software Engineer at Red Cap Cloud. Before that, he worked at the Pennsylvania State University, in the IT department. He was a member of the Curtin United Methodist Church.
Tom was a Purple Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He enjoyed working on computers and creating computer games, flying drones, hunting, snowboarding, skiing, and skateboarding. He was a do-it-yourself handyman and was always working on his home. He was an easy-going person and got along with everyone. He loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his nieces and nephews.
Tom is survived by his parents, his sister, Cindy K. Kling of Stormstown, and her children: Nathan, Curtis, Rebecca, and Adam; his brother, Randy R. Gates of Zion, and his children: Eric and Megan; his sister, Amy L. Wheeler, of State College, and her children: Amanda, Greg, April, and Alison, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
All services for Tom will be private. He will be laid to rest at the Eagle Cemetery in Curtin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the St. Jude Children Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
