- Betty Ilgen Shope April 18, 1922 -April 12, 2006 Betty Louise Ilgen Shope, 83, of Bellefonte, formerly of Howard, died Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at Centre Crest Nursing Home. She was born April 18, 1922, in Tylersville, (Miles Township). She was the daughter of the late Eldon R. and Alma S. Mechtley Ilgen. On Aug. 28, 1946, in Frederick, Md., she married the late Paul E. Shope. Betty was a 1940 graduate of the Miles Township High School in Rebersburg. She had worked at the Rebersburg Post Office, the Sylvania Plant in Mill Hall, and various other jobs. She was a member of the State College Church of Christ. She is survived by a son, Donald, of Flemington; a daughter, Ann, of Bellefonte; and a grandson, Matthew. She was preceded in death by a brother, Archie E. Ilgen. There will be no public visitation. Burial will be in Schenck's Cemetery in Howard Township. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 30, 2006, at 2 p.m., at the State College Church of Christ, 405 Hillcrest Ave., State College.
