• Notes

  John was a loyalist in the American Revolution and fled to New Brunswick, CA. He made a claim for losses in the Revolution while living in Washademock, Queens County, New Brunswick dated 6 Jan 1787. He stated that he was a native of Northampton County, PA when the troubles broke out. He had a 150 acres which he bought of Samuel Sutton just after his troubles. He paid him in paper money about 100 pounds. He had a deed (to his property) but left it behind. He had 4 acres cleared and had built a good log house. He did not know if he could have sold it for more than he paid for it. He had 12 pounds in debts owing to him. He never sided with the Americans, joined the British in the fall after they took Philadelphia, continued with the British and served at New York with General De Lancey's Loyalist Brigade until the wars end. (It appears that he served with the Third Brigade of Delancy's that remained at New York prior to Feb 1782 when the ruminants of the first two brigades were returned to New York. The Regiment was disbanded in New Brunswick in 1783. Esther Clark Wright "Loyalists of New Brunswick" lists him as being in DeLancey's Regiment and drawing Lot # 572 in Parrtown (St John) and at Wasademock Queens County. When John died he owned lands at Wickham and on Great Musquash Island.
