- Gerald L. Thompson, of 124 S. Williamson Road, Blossburg, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2011.
Gerald was born Aug. 25, 1926, in Liberty Township, Centre County, Pa. He was the son of David H. and Bessie Mae Leathers Thompson. Mr. Thompson was a graduate of Howard High School, class of 1934. He was an Army Air Force veteran, having served in the European Theater of Operations in World War II from 1941 to 1946.
He was a member of the First Methodist Church of Blossburg.
Mr. Thompson married the former Marie D. Swinsick of Morris Run, Pa. in November 1960.
They recently celebrated their 50th anniversary. In 1979, he retired as the manager of the Pennsylvania State Employment Office in Wellsboro. He owned and operated Thompson's Restaurant in Wellsboro for four years prior to working for the Employment Office.
He was a 50 year member of the F & AM Lodge 350 in Blossburg, a member of the Williamsport Consistory, and the Irem Temple Shrine. He was also a life member of the Blossburg Rod & Gun Club, the Arnot Sportsman Club, and a past service officer and life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Supreme Sacrifice Post No. 8730, Blossburg.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife; his brother-in-law, Joseph Swinsick; his nephew, John (Diane) Heffner; plus several other nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his caregivers, Rick and Sis Collins.
Private family services will be held Saturday, January 15 at 11 a.m. from the Freeberg Funeral Home, Blossburg, with Pastor Dean Edwards officiating. Burial will be at Arbon Cemetery.
