- Sara Kustanbauter Hoy, 87 of Howard, passed away Friday, March 1, 2019 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born on April 18, 1931 in Bellefonte, she was the daughter of the late Edgar G. Kustanbauter Sr. and Emmaline J. Sholl Kustanbauter. On May 19, 1978, she married Irvin R. Hoy who survives, sharing 40 years of marriage.
In additon to her husband, Sara is survived by three daughters, Chrystelle Rogosky of Mount Wolf, Pa., Jill Crager (Carlton) of Mount Joy, Pa., and Jeri Fisher (David) of Hummelstown, Pa., and one sister, Nancy Krape (Lowell) of Zion, Pa., and one sister-in-law, Helen Kustanbauter of Harrisburg, Pa.
Sara cherished her six grandchildren, Lashelle Kuhlman (Adam) of Zion, Pa., Matthew, Chloe & Bailey Crager, all of Mount Joy, Pa., and Samantha & Riley Fisher both of Hummelstown, Pa., and two great-grandchildren, Brayden & Malayna Kuhman of Zion, Pa.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Jamison, and four brothers; Charles, Edgar Jr., Thomas, and Orvis "Skip".
Sara was a 1949 graduate of Bellefonte High School, retired from Penn State's College of Agriculture, member of the Howard Christian Church, Past Matron of Eastern Star Bellefonte Chapter 350, member of the Howard Civic Club, volunteer for the Bellefonte Lunch Program and enjoyed going to the Bellefonte 49ers luncheons - which were all near and dear to her.
An avid Penn State Fan, Sara loved attending Penn State athletics events with her husband, Irvin, and especially enjoyed Penn State football and wrestling. Her favorite Saturdays were those spent tailgating with family and friends each fall at Beaver Stadium. She also loved spending time in her beloved garden surrounded by her favorite flowers and hummingbirds.
The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to the staff and caregivers of Grane Hospice of Altoona for the exceptional care and compassion they showed to Sara and her family during her final days.
Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kader-Neff Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. in Howard.
