- Betty H. Taylor October 7,1922 February 18, 2018 Betty H. Taylor, age 95, of Lake Wylie, S.C., formerly of Pennsylvania Furnace, went home to be with the Lord on February 18, 2018. Betty was born on October 7, 1922, to Isaac and Ruth Harpster on a family farm in Pennsylvania Furnace. On October 11, 1941, she married Ronald Taylor who preceded her in death in 2010. She was a graduate of the State College Area High School. Betty was employed in the Admissions Office of Penn State University for nine years, and retired from the State College Area School District after 23 years as Guidance Counselor Secretary. After retiring, Betty and Ronnie enjoyed living in Florida for 10 years before moving to Lake Wylie, S.C. to be closer to family. Betty came out of retirement to work in the Clover High School cafeteria until she was 87. She enjoyed the interactions with the students who affectionately called her "Grandma" or "Ms. Betty". Betty was an excellent homemaker. She loved to cook, bake, knit, sew, and work in her garden. She was an active member of Gatesburg Lutheran Church then later an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. After Betty retired the second time she kept busy volunteering at the church-sponsored Community Cafe in Lake Wylie, S.C. Betty is survived by two daughters, Jeanne Boone and husband Richard, of Boones Mill, Va.; and Joanne Hawkins and husband John, of Lake Wylie, S.C. She had five grandchildren, Tommy Boone and wife Angie, of Roanoke, Va.; Rina Lucas and husband John, of Charleston, S.C.; Jason Boone and wife Jenny, of Roanoke, Va.; Jon Hawkins, of Lake Wylie, S.C.; and Joel Hawkins and wife Amanda, of Sugar Grove, N.C.; and four great-grandchildren, Lauren Boone, Lindsey Boone, Jake Hawkins, and Brody Hawkins. In addition, Betty is survived by a sister, Anna Margaret Peters, of Pennsylvania Furnace; two sister-in-laws, Marjorie Taylor Zerbe, of Harrisburg, and Dorothy Harpster, of Peeples Valley, Ariz.; brother-in-law, Bill (Judy) Taylor, of Warriors Mark; and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her sister, Helen; and her brothers, Robert, Paul, and Lee. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Gatesburg Lutheran Church, Warriors Mark, with Pastor Susan Williamson officiating. A luncheon for family and friends will follow at Heydenreich Hall, Pine Hall Lutheran Church, 1760 West College Ave., State College.
