- Robert R. Day August 13, 1926 January 9, 2018 Robert R. Day, 91, of Howard, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College. He was born on August 13, 1926, in Howard, the son of the late Charles Thomas and Charlotte Mae Schenck Day. He married Alice Louise Confer on August 16, 1947, they were married for 49 years; she preceded him in death in 1996. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII where he served on the U.S.S. Beatty Destroyer and was proud to have been a Tin Can Sailor. Bob was a rural letter carrier for 35 years on Howard RD route, he retired in 1991. He was a graduate of Howard High School class of '44 where he served as the class president. He was a member of the Faith Chapel United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities over many years. He was a charter member of the VFW since 1946, and had served as a past commander. He was also a charter member of the Howard Areas Lions Club where he had served as secretary, director and was distinguished as a Melvin Jones Recipient. He was also a charter member of the Howard Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Bob was a member of the Oak Flat Hunting Club. Bob was an avid bowler, he enjoyed camping at the Pleasant Valley Camp Grounds, taking in nature and was an avid photographer. Bob is survived by five children, Dora Lea (Terry) Watson, of Howard, Bonnie Rae (Charles) Rosamilia, of Lock Haven, Charles "Chuck" Thomas (Karen) Day, of Bellefonte, Robert Eugene (Lori) Day, of Cleona and Amy Louise (Richard) Armstrong, of Lewisburg; six brothers, Richard Day, Arlin Day, Donald Day, Gordon Day, Larry Day, and Gary Day; two sisters, Donna Flaig and Judy Gephart; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his companion of the last fifteen years Mary Kay Kline. Friends and family will be received on Friday, January 12, 2018, from 6-8 p.m. at the Faith Chapel United Methodist Church, 551 Hunter Run Rd., Howard. Private funeral services will be held at the family's convenience with Pastor Mark Johnson Officiating. He will be laid to rest at Schenck Cemetery in Howard Township.
