- Helen M. Kunes, 78, a resident of the Ridgecrest Community in Howard, passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at the Pinnacle Health, Harrisburg Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer and Myasthenia Gravis.
She was born in Dubuque, Iowa, on Sept. 7, 1938, a daughter of the late Walter and Margurite Richter.
Helen was employed with the U.S. Postal service for 22 years retiring from the Beech Creek post office.
She graduated from Aquinas Catholic High School in Lacrosse, Wis.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Richard A. Kunes.
She was of the Catholic faith. Helen enjoyed collecting stamps, and doing jigsaw puzzles, but her greatest pleasure came from spending time with her family, particularly Sunday dinners and time spent with her grandchildren.
Helen is survived by two daughters, Debra J. (Charles) Mitchell of Beech Creek and Barbara A. (Ron) Young of Bellefonte; three sons, DuWayne A. (Susan) Kunes of Lock Haven, Steven W. (Valrie) Kunes of Middleburg and Daniel W. (Nicole) Kunes of Beech Creek; a brother, Nicholas Richter of East Moline, Ill., and a sister, Joyce Erikson of Elroy, Wis.; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 17, 2017, at 7 p.m. at the Kader-Neff Funeral Home, 135 W. Main St., Howard. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be at Schencks Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
