- G. Michael (Mike) Condo October 5, 1946 October 5, 2016 "For everything there is a season a time to be born, and a time to die." Ecclesiastes 3:1 G. Michael "Mike" Condo of Frederick, MD., passed away on October 5, 2016, his 70th birthday, after a lengthy and courageous fight against cancer and Cushing's Syndrome. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Patricia (Hoover) Condo and only son, Wells Jon Justin Condo. He will be lovingly remembered by several special nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends. Born on October 5, 1946, in Lock Haven, PA., he was the son of the late Walter and Dorothy (Rupert) Condo. Mike grew up in Howard, PA., a town he loved forever, a place where the people truly understood that "it takes a village to raise a child." A lifetime desire was to write a book about the diverse and unique characters of his special American small town. Mike was a true "people person" and enjoyed the "stories" of all people. Mike was a gifted athlete in several sports, but after graduating from Bald Eagle Area High School in central Pennsylvania, he accepted a full athletic scholarship to play Big Ten football at the University of Minnesota. Mike excelled there, playing his first game against Southern California on national television. He played on Minnesota's last championship team in 1967. Mike graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and Therapeutic Recreational Leadership. His degree areas served him well as he worked at the State Correctional Institution at Rockview in central PA. During his twelve years there he initiated and created numerous resident inmate athletic programs, often securing second-hand equipment from nearby Penn State University. In 1982 Mike accepted a position with Montgomery County Government in Rockville, MD., and he and family relocated to Frederick, MD. He worked the next 25 years taking on numerous challenging positions in the criminal justice system. Mike last served as a supervisor in a Pre-Trial Service Program with Montgomery County Government until his retirement in October 2007. Mike was a lifetime member of the United Church of Christ from his first church in Howard, PA., where he was baptized, confirmed and married and was a current member of the Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ in Frederick, MD. Over the years Mike worked with the Youth Group at ERUCC, and served on the Evangelism and Fellowship Committees. A memorial service for Mike will be planned for a later date and will be held in his beloved home town of Howard, PA. A service for Mike will be held on Monday, October 10, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ, 15 W. Church St, Frederick, MD 21701. There will be a visitation time from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. in the church social room. Following the 11 a.m. service ALL are welcome to share lunch and fellowship in the social room. Memorial contributions may be made in Mike's memory to the building fund at Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ, 15 W. Church St., Frederick, MD., 21701.
