769 Lloyd C. Nyman Sr, 81 of Blanchard, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at his residence. He was born in Curtin Twp., October 5, 1928. He was the son of the late Joseph & Rena Emenhizer Nyman.

He married Lois Elaine Weaver on March 18, 1950 who survives at home.

Lloyd was a dairy farmer and had worked at Marble Head Lime in Pleasant Gap. He was Charter member of the Howard Lions Club and a member of the Blanchard Church of Christ.

He is survived by 2 sons; Lloyd Jr. and wife Diana of Mill Hall and Michael and wife Wanda of Marsh Creek. Two daughters; Elaine Kern and husband William of Mexico, Pa. and Barbara Nyman of Blanchard. A brother; Joe Nyman and three sisters; Fay Holt, Shirley Dickey, and Melba Strouse. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Kader-Neff Funeral Home at the convenience of the family. Rev. Russell Moldovan will be officiating.

770 LOCK Haven - Sarah J. SCHENCK, 72, of Howard died Sunday, Oct. 24, 1999 in the Lock Haven Hospital. Born Sept. 25, 1927 in Lock Haven, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Ruth SCHENCK KLINE. She was a graduate of Lock Haven State Teachers College. She and Edwin M. SCHENCK were married Oct. 15, 1966 in Howard. She was a teacher at Bald Eagle School District from 1948 until her retirement on June 27, 1989. A member of the Howard United Methodist Church, she belonged to the United Methodist Women. She served as treasurer for the Centre County Women’s Christian Temperance Union. Her other memberships included the Howard Civic Club. She was also the secretary of Schencks Cemetery, for many years. She loved cats and cows, In addition to her husband, she is survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral Announcement Interment 27 October 1999, Schencks Cemetery, Howard Twp. HOWARD-MRS. ELLA BARBARA BOWER, 87, widow of SAMUEL BOWER and a life-long resident of this vicinity, died yesterday at the Bellefonte Hospital. She fell in January and broke her hip.
MRS. BOWER was born in Howard Twp., daughter of the late MR. AND MRS. JOHN LEATHERS. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Surviving are two sons, CHARLES BOWER, West Reading; HAUPT BOWER, Tunnelton; a sister, MISS FLORENCE LEATHERS, New Jersey and two grandchildren.

Lester Francis Geise, 92, of 522 Ontario Ave., Renovo, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, at the Bucktail Medical Center, Renovo.

He was born Dec. 6, 1915 in Northumberland, the son of the late Martin L. and Esther M. Heckert Geise.

In 1934 in St. John’s Lutheran Church, Northumberland, he married his wife of 59 years, the former Ruth Hummel, who died on Nov. 26, 1993.

He was a graduate of Northumberland High School and attended Penn State University.

He was first employed by the former PA Railroad and then Penn Central Railroad and retired from Conrail in 1976 after more than 40 years of service in the railroad industry.

Lester was a member and past treasurer and choir member of the First United Presbyterian Church, Renovo. He was a member and past Master of the Masonic Lodge No. 495 of Renovo and was a 32nd Degree Mason in the Scottish Rite Consistory, Williamsport.

He was a life member of the Elks Lodge and an active life member of the West Branch Hose Company No. 2, both of Renovo.

Les loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. He enjoyed family vacations to Canada where everyone took part in fishing, boating, swimming and most of all, enjoying time spent together.

He is survived by two daughters, Kathryn E. Hirlinger (Raymond) of Renovo,
and Nancy L. (James) Bowes of Flemington;
six grandchildren, Karen Miller,
Kevin Hirlinger,
Ruth Allen, James, Kenneth and Wendy Bowes,
and 11 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of services.

773 Lois Jean (Bitner) Bickle September 10, 1937 April 11, 2017 Lois Jean (Bitner) Bickle, 79, of Bellefonte went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at Hearthside Nursing Center. She was born in Boggs Township, Centre County, on September 10, 1937, the daughter of the late Oliver and Helen E. Eckenroth Bitner. On June 17, 1955, she married Robert A. Bickle, who preceded her in death on February 4, 2014. Lois was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, serving as President of the ECL for two years and started the first library in the church. She also enjoyed reading and loved her dogs. She lived in Moose Run most of her younger life. She attended Central City School for five years then the Bellefonte High School. Lois was the last of her generation. She is survived by her daughter, Carol McCulley, of Milroy; and her sons, Terry Bickle, of Millsboro, Del., Randy Bickle, of Port Matilda and Jeffrey Bickle, of Bellefonte. Also surviving Lois are her seven grandchildren and her five great grandchildren. Along with her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Harold Bitner and Paul Bitner; and her sisters, Jane Dyke, Florence Breon and Grace Powell. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at the Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home, 201 Spring Street, Milesburg at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Kenneth Codner officiating. 774 Lois M. Shay June 26, 1932 July 16, 2014 Lois M. Shay, 82, of Howard, passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. She was born in Liberty Township on June 26, 1932, a daughter of the late Oscar and Pauline Confer Thompson. Her husband, James P. Shay, preceded her in death on September 29, 2005. She was a graduate of Howard High School class of 1950. Lois was employed with the 1st National Bank of Howard, retiring from Commonwealth Bank after many years of service. She was a member of the Howard United Methodist Church, Howard Civic Club and Eastern Star. She enjoyed her family, particularly her grand and great-grandchildren whom she adored. She also loved her dog "Gracie". She is survived by one daughter, Trudy (Bobby) DeArment, of Howard; two sons, Kerrie "Nordie" (Suzanne Edwards) Shay, of Mill Hall and Matthew (Joe Fay) Shay, of Wyndmoor; one sister, Jessie Rohner, of Elizabethtown; three grandchildren, Abbie Shay Guenot (Ron), Emily Shay Reed (Nathan), and Taylor DeArment; and four great-grandchildren, Madelin and Audrey Guenot, Ellie and Noah Reed. Bellefonte, Pennsylvania - Lois V. Way, 91, of Bellefonte, passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at Centre Care. Born on January 16, 1931, in Bellefonte, she was the daughter of the late John Lambert Steele, Sr. and Lydia (Curry) Steele. On September 26, 1958, she married her beloved husband, Robert Lee Way, who preceded her in death on February 11, 1997, after sharing over 38 years of marriage together.
Lois dedicated her life to taking care of her home and her husband.
She is survived by her two brothers, Stanley Steele and Christian Steele, nephews, Budd, John, and Tom Eckley and nieces Susan (Trisch) Facer and Lorna Triche.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by sisters, Sara (Steele) Eckley, Rose (Steele) Triche, and brother, Jack Steele.
There will be a public viewing held on Monday, December 5, 2022, from 10-11 A.M., at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. Funeral services will begin at 11 A.M. with Rev. James Schomer officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

776 Lorraine M. McAulay, 82 of Howard, passed away Sunday, November 16, 2014 in Howard as a result of a motor vehicle accident. She was born on April 14, 1932, the daughter of the late William & Mae Delong Eaton.

She married Charles E. McAulay on May 1, 1948, he preceded her in death on July 5, 1999.

She was a quality control operator for Murata Erie retiring in 1997 after many years of service.

Lorraine was a member of the Howard United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, canning, working outside, and just helping people.

She is survived by three sons; Richard E. "Beany", Robert L. (Kathy) and Glenn E. all of Howard, one daughter; Kathryn N. (Keith) Lomison of Howard. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Rita E. Wilson, a brother and seven sisters. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Howard United Methodist Church, Main Street, in Howard on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. with the Pastor Craig Rose officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Burial will be at the Schencks Cemetery.

777 Loyd Mervin Tice February 14, 1934 - June 9, 2007 Loyd Mervin Tice, 73, was born on February 14, 1934, to Clyde and Charlotte Pletcher Tice in Howard. He was raised in Howard, and after high school joined the Army in 1953. Loyd was stationed at Ft. Carson in Colorado Springs, Colo., where he achieved the rank of Sergeant. Following honorable discharge in 1955, Loyd then attended Williamsport Technical College and received his degree in Civil Engineering. In 1956, Loyd started his career with IBM in Kingston, N.Y. On June 27, 1959, Loyd married Patricia Wheeler at the Church of Good Shepard in Rhinebeck, N.Y., In 1965 they moved to Longmont, Colo., where Loyd continued to work for IBM for the next 35 years. At his time of retirement in 1991, Loyd was Manager of Facilities Engineering & Maintenance. In 2000, Loyd moved to a quiet lake-side community in Loveland, Colorado. Loyd died June 9, 2007. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Patricia Tice. Sons Steven and wife Karen Tice of Breckenridge, Colo., and David and wife Deanna Tice of Grand Junction, CO. Daughter Susan Tice of Denver, Colo., and a sister Arlene and husband Joseph Garfield of Endwell, N.Y. Loyd was a devoted husband and father and will always be remembered for his eternal commitment to family and wonderful sense of humor. He loved golfing, skiing and gatherings with family and friends. The family cabin in Breckenridge was his favorite place to spend time with his family. Memorial Service to be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 19, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Loveland, Colo. Cremation has been completed. 778 Lucille I. (Ross) Hirlinger, 96, of Ionia, went to be with her Lord on Aug. 15, 2012. Lucille was born on July 2, 1916 in Mason City, Iowa the daughter of Fred and Mildred Petersen.
She loved being a housewife and mother. Lucille was dedicated to her church and was very active at the Ionia Hospital Cart and Lobby Guild. Lucille lived in Dade City, Fla., for 30 years and enjoyed the park activities.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Ross in 1981; second husband, John Hirlinger in 1987; sister, Gretchen Smith; granddaughter, Kimberley (Ross) Ferguson and infant brother, Joe Arthur Petersen in 1922.
Surviving are her children, Pamela (Richard) Rogers of Orleans and Thomas (Linda) Ross of Fenwick; grandchildren, Rebecca (Dale) Burns, Katherine (Shawn) Hause, Jennifer (Craig) Schafer, John (Marcy) Rogers and Thomas (Tammi) Ross Jr.; 14 great grandchildren; sisters, Lois Watson of Mt. Pleasant and Patricia Lathrop of Grand Rapids; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The Memorial Service will be conducted by Pastor Jon Clifton at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church, Ionia. Interment will be in Balcom Cemetery. The family will receive friends 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the church.

782 M. Austin Betz, 76 of Tempa, Ariz., formerly of Howard, passed away on June 8, 2016. He was born in Lock Haven to the late M. Harold Betz and Ruth Lucas Betz on December 25, 1939.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Sarah Alice Betz and Nancy Ellen Betz. He was the last of his immediate family.

He received his Bachelor's Degree from Lock Haven State Teachers College and a Masters from Penn State University. His Master of Arts from Brown University, his Master of Arts in Math & Statistics from the University of Illinois, which was followed by his Doctorate from the University of Illinois. He retired from Arizona State University in 1999, as a college professor.

Surviving him are his aunt, Lois Betz; and cousins, Barbie Bair and Bonnie Rossman.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Schencks Cemtery in Howard twp., Pa.

783 Madeline Holter Bryan Kundts, 84, Nittany, died Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at Hollywood Regional Hospital in Hollywood, FL. Born November 20, 1920 in Spring Mills, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Dora McMurtie Holter. On July 18, 1942 she married Richard C. Bryan. He died on July 18, 1977, their 35th anniversary. In February, 1986 she married Howard H. Kundts who died in September, 1997. Mrs. Kundts was a graduate of Walker Twp. High School. She resided over 32 years in Maryland where she was employed by the U.S. Federal Government. She was a member of the Lamar United Methodist Church. She was Past Matron of Ruth Chapter #7, Hyattsville, MD; order of the Eastern Star; member of P.E.O. Chapter 5, State College; Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America, Jobel Court #11, Altoona; Crystal Spring Rebekah Lodge #25 Bellefonte and N.A.R.F.E. Local Chapter #1616 State College. She is survived by a stepdaughter, Susan White of Virginia Beach, VA; a stepson, John Kundts of Denver, CO; two step-grandchildren and a cousin, Ann Shebest of Williamsport. 784 Makata Fay Peters October 19, 1943 June 20, 2016 Makata Fay Peters, 72, of Milesburg, passed away Monday, June 20, 2016, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Makata was born in Montoursville on October 19, 1943, the daughter of the late John H. and Helen Sheckler Weber. Makata was a 1961 graduate of Bald Eagle Area High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Donald E. Peters, Sr., on April 14, 1962, who survives at home. Makata designed her early working years around her family so she would be able to raise her two sons and be with her husband, Don. She worked at Cerro Copper and Brass, Penn State University, and as a bookkeeper for many businesses in the area. Makata was a member of the Milesburg Presbyterian Church. Makata loved her family, BEA, PSU sports, working with flowers, bird watching, Pastor Barbara, card club, her church family, spoiling her grandchildren, weekend getaways with her husband Don, 50, 60's music, shopping at C.J. Banks, traveling, hot fudge sundaes, and attending concerts at BJC. Most of all, Makata loved life, she was very caring and giving and a friend to all. Along with her husband, she is also survived by her sons, John (Kim) Peters and Donald E. Peters, Jr., both of Milesburg. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Radley, Emilie (Nathan Eisenhuth), Elliot Peters, all of Milesburg, Colby (Whitney) Peters, of Zion and Landon Peters, of Zion. Also surviving is her sister, Margaret Fisher, of Bellefonte; one aunt, Karen Fogg, of Frederick, Md.; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. We will all miss her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Kathleen (Weber) Eiker and her husband, William; her brother-in-law, Norman Fisher; and her twin grandchildren, Kyle and Kayla Peters. 786 Margaret H. Jamison, 82, of Bellefonte, passed away Friday, Aug. 27, 2010, at Centre Crest Nursing Home.

Born Jan. 27, 1928, in Bellefonte, she was the daughter of the late Edgar G. Kustanbauter Sr. and Emmaline J. Sholl. In 1946, she married John McElwee, who preceded her in death. Then, in her later years, she married Burton Jamison, who resides in Maryland. She attended the Bellefonte school system. Margaret attended the Methodist Church in Odenton. She was a former member of the Eastern Star and a volunteer for the Red Cross and the Senior Citizens.

Along with her husband, Margaret is survived by one daughter, Bonnie Reichert (Michael), of Alexandria, Tenn.; one son, Jeffery McElwee (Laura), of Glen Burnie, Md.; two sisters, Sara Hoy (Irvin), of Howard, and Nancy Krape (Lowell), of Zion; and one brother, Orvis "Skip" Kustanbauter (Helen), of Harrisburg. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by two children, Diane McHughes and John Jr.; and three brothers, Charles, Edgar Jr. and Thomas.

Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family with Pastor Jeff Munnis officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Bellefonte. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service Inc. in Bellefonte.

788 Marie D. Weaver April 15, 1937 February 5, 2015 Marie D. Weaver, of Centre Hall, died Thursday, February 5, 2015, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. She was born on April 15, 1937, in Howard, a daughter of the late Jesse Lee and Celia A. Leitch Dorman. On May 5, 1958, she married Daniel R. Weaver who survives in Centre Hall. She was a graduate of Bellefonte High School. Marie had worked at the State College Social Security Office, Jostens, and for several concession vendors in the area. She was an avid bowler. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and computer games. She enjoyed trips to different casinos. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter and great granddaughters. Along with her husband, she is survived by two sons, John T. (Jane) Weaver, of Boalsburg and Gary L. (Denise) Weaver, of Pleasant Gap; one granddaughter, Alicia (John Witherite III) Weaver; and two great granddaughters, Allison and Gracelyn Witherite. She was preceded in death by a sister, Alverta "Bertie" Calipo; and three brothers, Walter, David and Richard Dorman. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. at Calvary Bible Church, 600 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Centre Hall with Pastor Rick Gilbaugh officiating. Burial will be in Centre Hall Reform & Lutheran Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Visitation will be on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the service at the church.

789 MARIE F. MEDEIROSFALL RIVER -- Marie F. (Goulart) Medeiros, 89, of Little Compton, R.I., died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at Southpointe Rehabilitation & Skilled Care Center after a brief illness. She was the widow of Manuel S. Medeiros.

Born in Tiverton, R.I., the daughter of the late Frank S. and Mary (Ray) Goulart, she lived in Little Compton most of her life.

Mrs. Medeiros was a communicant of St. Catherine of Siena Church.

Survivors include three sons, Manuel S. Medeiros and his wife, Carol, of Kill Devil Hills, N.C., Raymond J. Medeiros and his companion, Barbara, of Little Compton and Matthew F. Medeiros and his wife, Sarah, of Barrington, R.I.; two brothers, John Goulart and George Goulart, both of Little Compton; three sisters, Martha Navarro of Tiverton, Helen Tavares of Little Compton and Evelyn Million of Virginia Beach, Va.; three grandchildren, Anita Stiger, Cynthia McNillan and Michael Medeiros, all of the New Bedford and Westport area; and four great-grandchildren, James McNillan, Mark McNillan, Michael S. Medeiros and Caroline Stiger.

She was the grandmother of the late Valerie J. Medeiros and sister of the late Joseph, Thomas and Francis Goulart.

Her Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Catherine Siena Church, Little Compton. Interment will be in Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery, Little Compton.

790 Marion John Moore, 92, a retired farmer who came to this community from Bronson, Mich., at 16 years of age, died at 5 o’clock this morning at the home of a son, The Rev I. P. Moore, on the Mishawaka Road just west of Bunker Hill. He had remained unusually active for his age until the last 2 months, suffering a fatal collapse last Wednesday evening.

The body is at the Dale White Chapel, 129 South Second, where friends may call after 1 p.m. Saturday until 11 a.m. Monday, when it will be taken to Buelah M.B.C. church, of which Mr. Moore was a member. It will lie in state at the church until the hour of the service there, 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Prairie Street Cemetery. The services will be in charge of the Rev. W.E. Manges and the Rev. H.E. Miller.

Mr. Moore was born in Fairfield County, Ohio, on 9 April 1851, the son of Michael and Mary (Shick) Moore. He was married to Emily Howard on 1 June 1873, at Bremen, Ohio. They lived in various places until they came to Elkhart in 1927 and built a little home a short distance east of the son’s home. Mr. Moore made his home in the son’s home since the death of his wife, December 11, 1931.

Surviving him are 7 sons and 2 daughters and a large number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The sons are the Rev. I.P. Moore, the Rev. Simon Moore of Mishawaka, the Rev. W.H. Moore of Wakarusa, the Rev J.I Moore of Celina, Ohio and the Rev. C.T. Moore of Cleveland, Ohio. Howard Moore of Bluffton and Carl Moore of Bremen, Ind., and the Daughters are Mrs. Grace Baker and Mrs. Margaret Chambers of Elkhart. Mrs. Chambers is the wife of the Rev. B.E. Chambers of Castle United Brethren Church.

August 24, 1925 - April 4, 2023
Bellefonte, Pennsylvania - It is with deep sadness that we announce that Marjorie (Aikey) Rackoski Spear passed away peacefully on April 4, 2023, at Eagle Valley Personal Care Home, in Milesburg. She was a beloved wife, sister, mother, and grandmother.
Marjorie was born on August 24, 1925, the second daughter of the late Gilbert and Ida Aikey. She was a 1944 graduate of Bellefonte High School and worked for the Bell Telephone Company for 20 years. She married John Rackoski on September 10, 1948, at the St. John's Catholic rectory. They went on to raise three boys before John passed away on July 13, 1985. She married Robert "Bob" Spear on September 1, 1995, and they enjoyed taking trips together as well as spending time with family at the Bald Eagle State Park. Bob preceded her in death on December 8, 2010.
Marjorie was a longtime member of the St. John's Roman Catholic Church in Bellefonte as well as the Catholic Daughters of America and enjoyed singing in the church choir. She enjoyed visiting with her family and friends and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons, David Rackoski (wife Beth) of Fort Collins Colorado, Jim Rackoski of Bellefonte, and Jack Rackoski (wife Heidi) of Chantilly Virginia, her five grandchildren Sean, Shannon, John, Thomas, and Sarah, along with one great grandchild Zya. She is survived by her sister Tracie Garman of Wayne, New Jersey as well as several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by four stepchildren, Douglas (wife Cheryl), David (wife Marilyn), Deborah (husband Ron), Scott (wife Rhonda), several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Margaret "Sara" Eminhizer and Mary Aikey.
There will be a public viewing held on Thursday, April 13, 2023, from 10-11am at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. Funeral mass will immediately follow visitation on April 13, 2023, at 11:30am, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 134 E. Bishop Street, Bellefonte, with Father Brian Saylor officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Bellefonte.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Marjorie's memory to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church Building Fund at 134 E. Bishop Street, Bellefonte, PA 16823.
