651 Joseph A. (Joe) Pletcher Sr. June 21, 1925 July 8, 2014 Joseph A. "Joe" Pletcher, Sr.,89, of Bellefonte, passed away peacefully at Centre Crest Nursing Home on Tuesday, July 8, 2014. Born on June 21, 1925, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Calvin and Ruth Devinney Pletcher. On July 3, 1948, in Bellefonte, he married Lillian B. Novosel who passed away on January 14, 2003. Joe attended the Howard High School. He was enlisted in the US Army during WWII. For his service, he received the Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Service Star for campaign "Rhineland", Bronze Star for campaign "Central Europe", and the EAME Campaign Ribbon. He was an Inspector at Cerro Brass in Bellefonte, retiring in 1982, after 45 years of service. Joe was a member of the Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Bellefonte. He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Undine Fire Co., Bellefonte American Legion Post 33, and Bellefonte VFW Post 5644. He enjoyed going the Bellefonte Senior Center, bowling, and family gatherings. He was an excellent baker, and known for his peanut butter fudge. He was always giving out tootsie rolls to both adults and children. Joe never passed up the opportunity to tell a joke or story. He will be truly missed by everyone that knew him. Joe is survived by his son, Joseph Allen Pletcher, Jr. and his wife, Beth, of Bellefonte; two grandchildren, Matthew A. Pletcher and Michael A. Pletcher, both of Bellefonte; and one great grandson, Bryce. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents and wife, Joe was preceded in death by three brothers, James, John "Mac" and Edward; and three sisters, Ann Pletcher, Janet Daughenbaugh and Elizabeth Pletcher. Visitation will be on Friday, July 11, 2014, from 6-8 p.m. with a rosary at 5:45 p.m. and a Wake service at 7:45 p.m. at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, 106 W. Sycamore St., Snow Shoe. Funeral Mass with be on Saturday, July 12, 2014, at 9:00 a.m. at the Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Bellefonte with Father George Jakopac officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at St. John Catholic Cemetery in Bellefonte. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Bellefonte Senior Center, 203 N. 652 Joseph G. Letteer Sr., 77, of Plymouth passed away Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at Riverstreet Manor.

He was born Feb. 23, 1936, and was the son of the late Joseph and Lillian Letteer.

Joseph was a Korean War veteran and was formerly employed by Tobyhanna Army Depot as a sheet metal fabricator, and was also formerly a Plymouth police officer.

He was a member of the First Christian Church in Plymouth, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1425, and the Korean War Veterans Association in Edwardsville.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Annie Marie Letteer Jones; brothers, Ernest Letteer, Frank Zipay and Leonard Zipay; grandchildren, James Joseph Letteer, Lee Matthew Smith and Brenda Sims.

He is survived by his wife, Judith Alden Letteer, who would have celebrated 55 years of marriage on Valentine's Day; children, Joseph Jr. and wife, Nancy, Plymouth; Karen Ayers and husband, Kevin, David Letteer, Nanticoke; Richard and Lisa, Dallas; Roland and Bernice, Plymouth; and Keith Mutchler and wife, Sarah, Kingston; sister, Roxanne Peterson, Larksville; brother, Thomas Letteer, Plains Township; 20 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday from Williams-Hagen Funeral Home Inc., 114 W. Main St., Plymouth, with the Rev. David Quisenberry officiating. Friends may call from 3 p.m. to service time.

He enjoyed hunting, reconstructing houses & helping others. Mr. Confer was a 1949 graduate of the Howard High School. In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Rodney Confer & Christie (Kim) Confer, both of Kansas; one brother, Jerry Confer, of Bellefonte; three sisters, Evon Truckenmiller, of Utah; Betsy Stamatakos, of Arizona, and Virginia Vanemon, of Bellefonte. He was preceded in death by three brothers William, Phillip & James Confer. Services and interment will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. No public visitation. 655 Joseph R. Gates, 76 of Howard, passed away Thursday, April 22, 2010 at his home. He was born on January 25, 1934 in Howard the son of the late Raymond and Joyce Leathers Gates. He married Sandra Bechdel, they have been married for over 51 years, she survives at home. Joe retired from Cerro Metal after over 30 years of service. He was of the Methodist Faith. He served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Howard VFW and he also played with the Back Porch String Band. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by one daughter; Billie Jo Weaver of Howard, one son; Timothy L. Gates of Columbus, Ohio. one sister; Judith Shiffler of Winchester, Va., three brothers; Thomas, Timothy, and Samuel Gates all of Howard. He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Long. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren; Toni and John Dreese and Brfandi Weaver Gates, two great-grandchildren; Debra and James Weaver. Services will Sunday, April 25, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Kader-Neff Funeral Home, 135 W. Main Street, Howard, Pa. with the Pastor Doug Mellott officiating. 656 Joseph S. Bergen Sr. Prudential vice president, Roseland resident Joseph S. Bergen Sr., 86, of Roseland, N.J., passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on Nov. 21, 2015. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, Nov. 25, at 9:30 a.m. from Farmer Funeral Home, 45 Roseland Ave., Roseland. The Funeral Mass will begin at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Roseland, followed by interment at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Montclair, N.J. 657 Joseph Stansfield died of typhoid fever at the home of his brother, Samuel Stansfield, September 11, aged thirty-five years, five months and seventeen days.

Mr. Stansfield was the son of Giles and Jane Stansfield, and was a native of Lancashire, England. In 1889 he came from England to East Bluehill where, except at short intervals, he has since resided.

Mr. Stansfield was a paving breaker. He went to Wisconsin last April to work at his trade. From there he went to Lythonia, Georgia, where he contracted a fever. He came home Aug. 19, and the next day was confined to his bed.

His brothers Samuel, Ellis and John, and their wives were with him during his last illness, and he was tenderly cared for by them and his neighbors.

Mr. Stansfield was honest, straight-forward young man and had many friends.

The funeral was held at the Methodist Chapel Aug. 13, Rev. J. D. McGraw officiating.
Interment was at Seaside Cemetery.

658 Joseph V. Brown Sr., 80, of 724 Wilson St., Williamsport, passed away Saturday, Nov.14, 2009 at the Williamsport Hospital. He was born Feb. 3, 1929 in Elmira, N.Y. a son of Vincent and Mary Harmon Brown.

Joseph was a member of Third Street United Methodist Church in Williamsport. He served in the Army during the Korean War, and had retired from Labor Union Local #708. On October 15 he celebrated his 49th wedding anniversary with his wife, the former Betty M. Lewis.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Joseph V. (fiancee Pilar Wilson) Brown, Jr. of Williamsport, and Christopher H. Brown at home; three sisters, Mary (Jack) Atkinson of South Williamsport, Katherine (Wes) Lentz of Sebring, Fla., Martha (William) Sauers of Williamsport; and a granddaughter, Josie Brown.

He was predeceased by a brother Ed.

The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009 at the Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery with military rites accorded by the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County. Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Howard, Pennsylvania - Judy Jean Coder, born on August 16, 1953, was taken to be with our Lord, on December 21, 2021. She resided in Howard, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her parents Paul A. & Anna Elizabeth Rockey Coder. Paul A. Coder Jr. a brother, also preceded her in death. She is survived by Jay A. Coder and his wife Linda (Holderman) Coder and Connie A. Brininger and her husband James L. Brininger, both of Howard. She has 13 nieces and nephews, with 17 great- nieces and nephews and 1 great- great- niece.
Judy was a devoted church going person until Covid hit, then she praised God through the TV ministries. She was baptized at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Snydertown. She had attended the Assembly of God Church, in Mill Hall until it closed. Then she went to the New Hope of Bellefonte. She last attended the Trinity Reformed Church of Hublersburg where she received the spiritual enjoyment that she loved. She was a special Chrisitan and was a voice for God all her life. She was well loved by everyone.
She was a 1971 graduate of Bellefonte High School. After high school she was employed with the Lock Haven Police Dept. for a few years. She decided to move to Arizona with a friend and worked as a dog caregiver. She eventually moved back to PA. and worked as an Assistant Court Administrator for 35 years. Judy loved her job and worked hard at it. She was well liked by her associates and the people she came in contact with. She enjoyed being with family and friends and she enjoyed watching animals and all their antics. Judy loved spending her vacations at Grange Fair from childhood to adulthood. She will be missed by all.

661 June A. Walizer July 2, 1923 December 21, 2016 June A. Walizer, 93, of Howard, passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at the Mt. Nittany Medical Center in State College. She was born on July 2, 1923 in Jacksonville, PA, the daughter of the late Willard and Ruby Frazier Yearick. On February 16, 1943 she married Ralph Walizer who preceded her in death on June 16, 2008. She was a seamstress for Woolrich for many years at both the Howard and Blanchard facilities. June was a member of the Emmanuel United Church of Christ in Jacksonville. She is survived by two sons; James of Howard and Scott (Cindy) Walizer of Zion, one daughter; Sharon Darrell "Ed" Eminhizer of Milesburg, one brother; George (Patricia) Yearick of Towanda, PA, one sister; Ethel (Harold) Fisher of Murphy, N.C., six grandsons; Terry and Darren Eminhizer, Jamey (Beth) and Dustin (Jessica) Walizer, Casey and Toby Walizer and one great-grandson; Zobie Walizer. She was preceded in death along with her husband one brother Homer Yearick. June Alberta Cupples Wolf October 2, 1921 - December 15, 2008 June Alberta Cupples Wolf, 87, long-time resident of Howard, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College after a brief illness. Since January 2007, she had been a resident at the Eagle Valley Personal Care Home in Milesburg. She was born Oct. 2, 1921, in Osceola Mills, a daughter of the late Edward Blair Cupples and Jennie Bell Shoff Cupples. She was married to Richard K. Wolf, a native of Howard, who survives her and currently resides at the Eagle Valley Personal Care Home. She is also survived by a son and three stepchildren, namely, Dr. Barrett L. Cupples, of Kingwood, Texas, Kline R. Wolf, of Howard, Patricia Dixson, of Rochester, N.Y., and Marcia Jan Rutherford, of Reston, Va. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. The next to the youngest of 11 children, she was the last one surviving at the time of her death. Although she spent most of her youth in Osceola Mills, she graduated from Philipsburg High School. She was employed for 30 years by the Houtzdale Wholesale Produce Co., where she served in various capacities. Until 2006, she and her husband spent the winter months in Florida, where in recent years their address was in Orange City. In addition to her love for her family, she loved football, especially Penn State football. For several years, she, with her husband and friends, followed the team around the country each autumn as well as attending most of the home games. A cherished memory was of their visit to New Orleans for the 1983 Sugar Bowl in which PSU defeated Georgia to win its first national championship. A memorial service is planned for the springtime at the United Methodist Church in Howard, where she was a member. Her remains will be interred at the Schenck Cemetery near Howard. 663 Kathryn E. (Geise) Hirlinger, 89, of Renovo, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at Haven Place in Lock Haven.

Born Nov. 10, 1934 in Sunbury, she was a daughter of the late Lester and Ruth (Hummel) Geise.

She was married in Renovo to Raymond G. Hirlinger in 1956 until his passing in 2014.

Kay graduated from Renovo High School in 1952 and the Williamsport Hospital School of Nursing in 1955.

After a short employment in Ohio, she started work at the Bucktail Medical Center in 1963 and retired in 1985. She worked an additional two years with Community Nursing.

Kay enjoyed tending to her backyard flowers and crocheting. She especially loved the time spent with her family.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Surviving are three children, Karen (Rick) Miller, of Williamsport, Kevin (Tracie) Hirlinger, of Mill Hall, and Ruth (Mark) Allen of O’Fallon, Ill.

Also surviving are her grandchildren, Erica, Dan and Andrew Miller, Matthew and Stephen Hirlinger, Alicia (Josh) Touma, Tyler (Laura) Allen, Bryan Allen; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Nancy (Jim) Bowes, of Flemington.

A private funeral will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Hyner.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church (Improvement Fund) in her memory.

664 Kathy Lynn Hirlinger, 57, entered into rest Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at her home in Stillwater, Pennsylvania. Born in Lancaster, on August 13, 1956, she was the daughter of the late Glenn and Jacqueline (Carrigan) Hirlinger.

She was a member of Cornerstone Bible Church in Nescopeck and attended Town Hill United Methodist Church in Shickshinny, where she sang and played in the bell choir. She attended several missions trips to Source of Light Ministries International in Madison, Georgia, and volunteered with Child Evangelism Fellowship of Luzerne County. One of her favorite places was Patterson Grove Campground in Shickshinny, where she was also a worship leader. She was an avid crafter, loved birdwatching, and carried the magic of Christmas in her heart all year long.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Patterson Grove Campground in the spring.

Milesburg, Pennsylvania - Kay L. Walk, 76 of Milesburg passed away at her residence on Friday, February 25, 2022, surrounded by her family. Kay was born on September 20, 1945, in Lock Haven a daughter of the late Walter P. and Gladys B. Stainer Rupert. On June 6, 1970, she married Kenneth M. Walk who preceded her in death on January 26, 2017. Kay is survived by her daughter, Tina L. Doone and her son, Christopher M. Walk; also surviving are her 5 grandchildren, Ryan J. Kaltreider, Miranda Walk, Frances Walk, Kaitlyn Doone and Maxine Walk. Kay was employed at Centre Community Hospital for 25 years, and at Mount Nittany Medical Center in the pediatrics department as an LPN. Kay was a member of Grays Woods Church in Port Matilda. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Derek Kaltreider.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at The Dean K. Kelsey E. "Kels" Lomison, 77, of 27 Front St., Orviston, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2012 in Curtain Township.

He was born March 17, 1934 in Orviston, the son of the late Paul I. and Marian I. Daley Lomison. On June 5, 1954 in the Orviston Christian Church, he married the former Barbara A. Reeder, who survives.

He attended the former Lock Haven High School. Kels retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in 1996. Following his retirement he was employed by Morcar Motors, Miller Brothers Auto Sales and the Central PA Auto Auction.

He attended the Beech Creek Wesleyan Church and the Orviston Bible Church.

He was a past board member of the Lock Haven School Board. He was the chairman of the Curtain Township Board of Supervisors. He was actively involved with Centre County Keep PA Beautiful, Beech Creek Watershed, Ridge Runners Campground, and was a charter member of the Howard Lions Club.

He was the voice of the Three Points Sportsman's Club annual Fish Rodeo. Kels was proud of his hometown and was the chairman of the Orviston Community Reunion Committee.

He was a past chairman of the Centre County Democratic party and was heavily involved with municipal, county and state-wide politics and elections.

Through his efforts as co-director of the annual Off-Ben Avenue Follies, hundreds of dollars have been raised for Central Mountain sports booster clubs.

He was the voice of Central Mountain Baseball, announcing home contests.

A musician all his life, his band "Kels Lomison and Friends" has entertained and supported countless number of charities throughout the area.

Kels was a man with a big heart, someone who could not say "no" to anyone or any organization that reached out to him for his unique ability to garner community support for individuals or organizations in need.

For his lifelong selfless commitment to his community he was most deservingly honored on July 19, 2009 at Riverview Park with "Kels Lomison Day."

In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Wesley A. Lomison Sr. (Missy) of Orviston, and David W. Lomison Sr. of Milesburg; one sister, Ann Smith, (Ron) of Orviston; five grandchildren, Wesley A. Jr., Leslie D., David W. Jr., Breanna L. He was an extraordinary caring leader in many facets of life, from singing for area churches, organizing benefits for persons and families in need, and serving Curtin Township and his home community of Orviston. As a community leader, Kelsey demonstrated a deep commitment to serving his neighbors. His leadership within the Howard Area Lions Club and the Clinton County Fair represents just two of the countless efforts he performed. He touched many lives and provided an excellent example to all who knew him. His determination, bright outlook on life, and phenomenal voice will be remembered. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife Barb, sons Wes and Dave, and their entire family. Kelsey Lomison's kindness, professionalism, talent and unselfish service will be missed. State College, Pennsylvania - Kenneth Dale Harpster (Ken), 89, of State College, passed away on Monday, May 1, 2023.
Born on January 23, 1934 in Pennsylvania Furnace, he was the son of the late Ira Harpster and the late Violet Harpster (Griffin).
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Irene Harpster (Zakutney) of State College, PA. In addition, he is survived by sons Jeffrey Harpster (Susan) of State College, PA, Steven Harpster (Angie) of Frederick, MD, grandchildren Carolyn Rose Harpster of Brooklyn, NY and Kenneth Dale Harpster II of State College, PA. He is also survived by his sister Emeline (Lina) Hood (Lam) of State College, PA.
Ken worked for the Pennsylvania State University in Management Services for over 40 years.
Ken enjoyed many activities during his life that included daily walks where Ken and Irene could always be seen following their neighborhood paths, bowling, bridge and slow pitch softball (he was the pitcher).
Ken was a member of Grace Lutheran Church where he spent many years assisting in the counting of the offerings.
Ken also devoted his free time to delivering Meals on Wheels and helping with Special Olympics during the summer athletic events at Penn State.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held at Grace Lutheran church at 11:00 AM on Thursday May 4. The family will receive guests starting at 10:00 AM.

670 Kenneth “Kenny” Powers, 88, of Little Compton, passed away at home on Sunday, September 17, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Marion F.(Medeiros) Powers. Born in Waltham, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Luther A. and Mary M. (White) Powers.

In addition to his wife Marion, he is survived by his brother-in-law William Medeiros (wife Lorraine), sister-in-law Lillian Marrow and many nieces and nephews.

Kenny served in the United States Army and was PFC from 1956-1958. He was employed by Raytheon Company, Waltham, MA and Microwave Associates of Burlington, MA for many years.

He was an enthusiast of aircraft and also enjoyed building model trains in his spare time. He was also a member of the Stow Lions Club and the Concord Minutemen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at 10:00 am, Saint Catherine of Siena Church, 74 Simmons Road, Little Compton. Interment will immediately follow at Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery, South of Commons Road.

Mrs. Kate M. Gordon, wife of Elmer Gordon, died quite suddenly at their home near Pleasant View on Sunday, Feb. 2, 1913, at three o'clock in the afternoon. Mrs. Gordon suffered a stroke of paralysis earlier in the day and sank rapidly until the hour of her death, which came as a severe shock to her family and friends. Mrs. Gordon, whose maiden name was Miss Kate M. Gordon, a daughter of Daniel and Mary Gordon, was born at Clintondale, June 4, 1865, and hence was aged 48 years, 7 months, and 29 days. She was united in marriage to Elmer Gordon in 1884 and during their residence in this vicinity she won the regard of a large circle of friends who mourn her death. She leaves her husband, Elmer Gordon, and five sons: Daniel, Benjamin, Elmer, David, and Howard. The following brothers and sisters also survive: Samuel Gordon, Mrs. William Hassinger, Daniel Gordon, of Bellefonte; William, of Columbus, Ohio, and Mrs. Mary Isenburg, of Huntingdon, Pa. Funeral services were conducted in her late home on Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock, by Rev. C.W. Winey, pastor of the United Brethren church. Burial was made in the Treziyulny cemetery, Milesburg.

680 KIPTON – Hazel Louise Cook, age 80, of Kipton died July 18, 2011 at Elyria Memorial Hospital.
She was born on September 14, 1930 in Howard Pa., and has lived in Kipton for over 40 years. She had worked for the Telephone Co. for many years. She was a member of the Church Of The Nazarene in Vermilion and an active volunteer at the Senior Center in Oberlin. She loved to read and work on crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her sons Carl (Beve) Cook, of Elyria, Daniel (Nan) Cook, of Gainesville, Ga., Timothy (Sylvia) Cook, of Cleveland, Rick (Jackie) Cook, of Clayton, N.C., sister Sylvia "Sis" (Dick) Eckhardt, of Calif., brothers Lee Sathre, of Fla., Larry (Nancy) Sathre, of Brunswick, Harold Sathre, of Brooklyn, OH, Ronald Sathre, of Olmsted Falls, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Clarence "Cookie" Cook, her parents Louis and Hazel (Pletcher) Sathre, a daughter Sharon, and a brother Carl Sathre.
Friends may call on Wednesday July 20 from 6:00 to 9:00 at the Morman Funeral Home 16 Cooper Street, Wakeman. On Thursday there will be visitation from 10:00 am until the time of services at 11:00 at the Church of the Nazarene, 14907 Kneisel Road, Vermilion. Pastor David Johnson will be officiating. Burial will follow at Camden Cemetery outside of Kipton.

681 Kline J. "Spike" Wolf Jr. , 71 of Howard, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, May 22, 2020. He was born in Lock Haven on February 27. 1949, the son of the late Kline J. Sr. and Thelma Johnson Wolf.

Spike was a graduate of Bald Eagle Nittany " Class of 67 "where he was a member of the undefeated football team. He was proud to say that his football team never lost a game during his four years of high school. He would go on to play football at the collegiate level at Iowa State. He would proudly serve his country during the Vietnam Conflict in the U.S.Army. He retired from Croda of Mill Hall after many years of service.

He was an avid hunter and loved to ride his Harley. He enjoyed snake hunting and was a member of the Little Hollow Sportsman Club, lifetime member of the Beech Creek American Legion and the 40 and 8 of Lock Haven, he was also a social member of the Howard VFW. He was also a former manager of the Rocky Point Lodge, Queens Run.

His greatest pleasure was spending time with his family and friends.

Spike is survived by his wife Pamela K. Pierson whom he was united in marriage on June 21, 2014. Also surviving are three sons; Neil J. Wolf of North Carolina, Jeromy J. Wolf (Candy) of Lock Haven, and Mason R. McCauley of Howard, three daughters; Amy Annegan-Arce (Willie) of Erie, Morgan P and Madison K. McCauley both of Howard, two sisters; Diane Blaschak (John) of Mifflinburg and Barb Randecker (Jim) of Lewisburg, six grandchildren; Anthony Maldonado, Catheriine Arce, Montana, Hunter, Katelynn and TJ Wolf two great-granddaughters; Alivia Maldonado and Isabella Wolf and his two faithful canine companions Tyson and Dillon. He was preceded in death by a brother Pete Wolf.

A memorial celebration of life service will be held at later date and will be announced.

Howard, Pennsylvania - Kline Richard Wolf, 77, of Howard passed away on Saturday, June 10, 2023. He was born September 3, 1945, to Ruth Reiber Wolf and Richard Kane Wolf. He was given the nickname "Skip" by his grandfather, Kline R Wolf.
Skip was a 1963 graduate of Bald Eagle Area High School. He also graduated from the Williamsport School of Commerce, the Toledo School of Meat Cutting, and served six years in the United States Army Reserve in Bellefonte, PA.
On June 24, 1967, at the Beech Creek Presbyterian Church, he married the former Jeanne Clark. They would have celebrated their fifty-sixth anniversary this year.
Skip was the fourth of five generations to own and operate his family's business, Wolf's Market, in Howard. He began working at the store at a very early age pecking potatoes. He celebrated the market's 100-year anniversary in June of 1989 and retired in 2002.
In 2019 and 2020 Skip was recognized for his fifty-year memberships in the Jaffe Shrine and the Bellefonte Lodge No. 268 of the Free and Accepted Masons. He was also a member of the Bellefonte Elks, the Howard Lions Club, the Juniata Valley Council of Boy Scouts of America, and the Howard Fire Co. #14 where he participated with the EMS, the fire police, and the Punkin Chunkin solicitations. He spent many hunting seasons and social gatherings with friends and family at his favorite places~ Camp Mill Branch and the Council Run Hunting Camp, of which he was a third-generation member. He was a life- long member of the Howard United Methodist Church. In 2018 he was instrumental in renaming the Howard causeway bridge the Howard Area Veterans Bridge.
Skip is survived by his wife Jeanne and their three sons and their families: Kline R "Kip" and Alta, Ashlee and Brian Kochik and children Bowen and Locklyn; Joshua and children Joulia, Alexander and Nadia; Matthew and Shannon and children Kane, Jackson, and Ariel, Tanner and Jameson Commerer. He is also survived by two sisters, Patricia Dixon and Marsha Rutherford and their families and stepbrother, Barrett Couples and his family. He was predeceased in death by his parents and stepmother, June Couples Wolf.
A memorial service will be held this fall and his ashes will be scattered at his favorite hunting camps. Loren M. Williams, 53, of 50 Meyers street, Forty Fort, died suddenly yesterday morning in the office of A. J. Sordoni Construction Co., Owens street, Forty Fort, of a heart attack. Mr. Williams was purchasing agent for the firm and had only been in his office a short while when stricken. He was born in Loyalville and had been a resident of Forty Fort for thirty-two years where he took a prominent part in community activities. He had been with the Sordoni company for a number of years. Mr. Williams was a member of Wyoming lodge, F. & A. M., Keystone Consistory at Scranton and Irem Temple. Surviving are his wife, formerly Miss Edith Hawke, and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Lambert Bowman, Weintz; Mrs. Mary Hirlinger, Red Rock; Mrs. Ralph H. Rood, Dallas; Herbert R. 686 Laird Schenck, 91 of Howard, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2008 at his home. Laird was born on August 20, 1916 in Howard Twp., to the late Sarah A Robb. Laird married Martha Mapes on June 28, 1941. She passed away on June 25, 1998.
Laird was a graduate of Howard High School in 1934. He was retired from being a self-employed dairy farmer.
He was a member of the Faith Chapel United Methodist Church of Howard. He was also a member of the Howard Grange, past president of the Schenck''s Cemetery Association, Schenck and Pletcher Hunting Camp, Bald Eagle School Director for 12 years. He will be sadly missed by many.
He is survived by 4 daughters; Susan & husband Delbert Dingle of Mont ALto, Pa., Shirley Herbert of West River, Md., Sandra and husband Robert Conner of Lewistown, Pa., Sara Crawford of Lancaster, Pa. 3 Sons; Richard and wife Dorothy Schenck of Mill Hall, Pa., Daniel Schenck of Mill Hall, Gary and wife Debra Schenck of Millerton, Pa. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

689 Leanore Ruth Graffius, 100 of Bellefonte, formerly of Howard, passed away Wednesday, June 20, at the Centre Crest Nursing Home in Bellefonte, She was born on March 9, 1918 in Mt. Eagle Centre Co., the daughter of the late William and Ethel P. Leathers Gates.

On October 27, 1937 she married Frederick Graffius. He preceded her in death on March 6, 2006.

She was a homemaker. Ruth was a very active member of the Howard United Methodist Church and also active in her community. She lived by her faith.

Ruth is survived by three daughters, Patricia (George) Yearick of Troy, Pa., Linda (Ted) Bair of Madisonburg, Pa., and Jaqueline (Charles) Pangle of Augusta, Georgia; two sisters, Lois Ball of York and Patricia Houpt of Greenville; six grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to give special thanks to the wonderful staff and care their mother received while at the Centre Crest Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 1, at 2 p.m. at the Howard United Methodist Church, Main Street, Howard with the Pastor Craig Rose and Pastor Kathleen Danley officiating.

Born Nov. 1, 1925, he was a son of the late Harry and Maggie (Bates) Confer.
Lee was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Philippines during World War II.
On April 13, 1951, he married his love, the former Delores R. Davy, with whom he shared 69 years of marriage.
By trade, he was a construction worker.
Lee was a member of the Rote United Methodist Church.
He was also a member of the VFW and Lamar Township Fire Company.
Lee enjoyed the outdoors — whether he was hunting, fishing, gardening or going to camp.
In addition to his wife, Delores Confer of Rote, he is survived by his children Terry (Cindy) Confer of Mill Hall and Lori Stahl of Mill Hall; a daughter-in-law, Jackie Confer of Tylersville; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Walter Confer, Milford Confer, Serge Confer, Eleanor Bloom and Mae Decker; a son, Randy Confer; and his son-in-law, Steven Stahl.
Internment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Mill Hall.

Surrounded by his loving wife and all his children, Lee F. "Tuff" Gardner, 78, of Howard, passed away Jan. 3, 2014 at Centre Crest.

He was a son of the late Donald B. and Pearl M. (Pletcher) Gardner.

He was a 1953 graduate of Bald Eagle Area High School.

Tuff served in the United States Army and was a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Unit.

He was employed 41 years at the Hammermill paper mill in Lock Haven. He was the Howard Borough tax collector for 32 years.

Tuff was a well-known local high school athlete, participating in football, basketball and baseball.

He belonged to the Howard VFW Post 8269 and the Beech Creek Legion and was active in the Howard Fire Company for many years.

Tuff was an avid outdoorsman and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He loved to spend time at his camp, Fern Hollow, in Snow Shoe.

Tuff is survived by his wife of 57 years and high school sweetheart, Dot. He is also survived by two daughters, Chris Dolan (Nevin) of Howard and Nicole Rigg (Will) of Bellefonte; two sons, Duane Gardner (Deb) and Tracy Gardner (Barb), both of Howard; along with grandchildren Jesse, Emily, Ben, Clayton, Bryce and Coleman.

As the last surviving member of his family, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Donnie, Ted, Bill, Bob; four sisters, Sis Redline, Viv Preston, Barb Isenberg and Dot Justice; and a granddaughter, Becky Irvin.

The family will receive friends at the Howard United Methodist Church, Main Street, on Monday, Jan. 6, from 6 to 9 p.m. Services will be held at the church on Tuesday at 11 a.m., followed by interment at Schenck's Cemetery in Howard.

Leigh had been a waitress at Gus's Keystone Restaurant, Mount Joy and Red Lobster, York. She enjoyed writing, cooking, playing volleyball, and loved music. Her cat, Alex and two dogs, Kady and Gryphon will miss her.
Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of Kathy L. Hirlinger of Stillwater and the late Ward L. Baxter.
In addition to her mother, Leigh will be missed by her companion, Ryan Frymoyer; her brothers, Christopher (Christine Eckert) Fair of Landisville and Matthew Baxter of Auburn; her sister, Angela (Travis) Lyle of York, her paternal grandmother, Doreen Baxter of Nelson; her stepmother, Joan Baxter of Auburn; and her stepfather, Richard Wenditz of Marietta.
A Memorial Service remembering Leigh's life will be held at Mountville Mennonite Church, 205 Froelich Ave., Mountville on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 4 pm. Friends may visit with the family from 3:30 until 4 pm and again immediately following the service. Interment is private. January 28, 1934 - January 27, 2024

Howard, Pennsylvania - Leon Eugene Marshall, 89, of Howard passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Mount Nittany Medical Center.

Born on January 28, 1934, he was the son of the late J. Frederick and Ethel I (Overdorf) Marshall. He married the love of his life, Faye Pletcher on Aug 17, 1958.

Leon was a 1951 graduate of the Walker Twp. High School. He worked for Penn State University as a Soil Chemical Research Assistant, retiring in 1996 after 40 years.

Leon was a member of the Howard United Methodist Church and was a trustee for many years, a 50-year member of the Bellefonte Masonic Lodge #268 and the Howard Area Lions Club, as well as being a 40-year member of the Howard Borough Council.

In addition to his loving wife, Faye, Leon is survived by his sister Rosalie Wilson, sister-in-law Gale Marshall, 6 nephews and 1 niece.

Along with his parents, Leon was preceded in death by Robert F Marshall and Shirley M Boone.

Family and friends will be received for a grave side memorial service at 10:30am on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Schenck's Cemetery. Pastor Craig Rose will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Leon's name may be sent to the Howard United Methodist Church, Howard Fire Co., or a charitable organization of your choice.
