Carson Lodge #598 F&AM; Leonard was in the automobile business for over 60 years and started Hirlinger Chevrolet 30 years ago; Tuesday June 12, 2007; Age 77; Residence Green Township; Visitation will be Saturday from 9-11 A.M. at the Paul R. Young Funeral Home, 7345 Hamilton Ave. Mt. Healthy; Funeral service will be at the convenience of the family; Remembrances may be made to the Mercy Franciscan Western Hills Cardio Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center; Condolences may be sent to www.paulyoungfuneralhome.com Cincinnati Enquirer 22 Jun 2007 GREEN TWP. - Leonard T. Hirlinger Jr. worked in the automotive industry for more than 60 years. He grew up helping his father run a business selling trucks, fire engines and ambulances. "He wasn't afraid to work," said his son Michael, of Delhi Township. "He pretty much worked all his life." Mr. Hirlinger, 77, former owner of Hirlinger Chevrolet in West Harrison, Ind., died Tuesday at his Green Township home. Born in Cincinnati on July 21, 1929, Mr. Hirlinger was a graduate of Colerain High School and attended the University of Cincinnati. Around the time of his birth, his father - who had been in the trucking business - began selling heavy-duty trucks. He sold Federal, Divco, Diamond T and Diamond Reo trucks out of a store on Third Street downtown. All were manufactured for commercial uses, such as hauling water, pulling trailers and delivering milk. A few years later, Hirlinger Truck Sales was relocated to Spring Grove and Arlington avenues. It grew to include the Midwest distributorship for Dodge trucks and a Willys Jeep franchise. Mr. Hirlinger inherited the business at about age 30 after his father's death. His lifelong dream was to have a Chevrolet dealership, his son said. In 1977, he closed the business on Spring Grove Avenue. The following year he bought Valley Motors - a Chevy dealership in Brookville. He moved it to West Harrison, where it's been since 1980. "He was always hands-on with the business," Michael Hirlinger said. "You could see him out pushing a broom, cleaning windows - whatever it took to get the job done." He took pride in keeping his business clean, said another son, Steven, of Wilder. Mr. Hirlinger turned the dealership over to his sons about 10 years ago, but he still came in three or four days a week to help out. Outgoing and sociable, he "had a million friends," Michael Hirlinger said. "He got along with everybody. He was never a flashy kind of guy. He could relate to anybody, from a kid cleaning up cars to the highest of the high. He looked at everybody the same way - treated everybody with respect and was honest. There's not many like him. "To this day people still come into the dealership to see my dad." Mr. Hirlinger was a member of the Automotive Old Timers of Cincinnati, the Happy Birthday Club, the Convertible Club, Clovernook Country Club and E.T. Carson Lodge No. 598 F&AM. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Maria, in 1996. In addition to his sons, Michael and Steven, survivors include his wife, Carol Brefeld Hirlinger; another son, Leonard Hirlinger III of Harrison; a sister, Martha Hahn of Delhi Township; and six grandchildren. Visitation is from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Paul R. Young Funeral Home, 7345 Hamilton Ave., Mount Healthy. The funeral will be private. Burial will be at Arlington Memorial Gardens. The family suggests memorial gifts to Mercy Franciscan Western Hills Cardio-Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center. | Hirlinger, Leonard T Jr (I6195)

278 | Clearfield Progress 05/15/1922 - Popular School Teacher Passed Away Sun. Last - Miss Maude Pletcher, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Pletcher of So. Second Street passed away at the Clearfield Hospital at 4 o'clock Sunday morning after a week's illness, following a surgical operation. Miss Pletcher had been a sufferer from appendicitis and serious stomach trouble for some time and an operation was decided upon by her physicians last week. She entered the Hospital on Sunday of last week and was operated upon on Monday, the appendix and tumorous growth being removed. She rallied for a time following the operation but suffered a sinking spell Saturday evening which continued until the end came. The deceased was a native of Centre County and came to Clearfield with her parents about sixteen years ago. She was employed as a teacher in the public schools shortly after coming here and when taken sick was engaged as head of the primary department at Market Street school. She was an exceptionally capable teacher and her death is a distinct loss to our schools. Miss Pletcher was a graduate of Lock Haven Normal School and of King's School of Oratory of Pittsburgh. She possessed exceptional ability as a reader of elocution and was for several years a member of the faculty of Susquehanna College of Music. An earnest, consistent member of Trinity Methodist Church since coming to Clearfield, she took quite an active interest in the activities of her church. She was greatly beloved in her home by her fellow teachers and in the school room, where her little charges simply worshipped her. Quiet and consuming, with a sunny disposition, she gave the best of her abilities in every task which fell to her hands, and her passing is a distinct loss to our community as she will be sadly missed in many circles where her thoughtful, unselfish kindnesses radiated sunshine into lives otherwise drab. She was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Pletcher, whose hearts are crushed by their grat loss, and who have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement. The funeral will be held from the Pletcher home Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev Horace Lincoln Jacobs will conduct the services and interment will be made in Hillcrest Cemetery 05/19/1922 - FUNERAL OF MISS MAUDE PLETCHER - The funeral of the late Miss Maude Pletcher, which was held from the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Pletcher on South Second street was attended by a very large number of relatives and friends, that attendance demonstrating the place Miss Pletcher living held by the entire people of this community. Reeve, of the First Presbyterian church followed with a most eloquent and touching eulogy and tribute to the deceased. Dr. Reeve spoke of the place Miss Pletcher filled in this community and said that while she is gone the influence of her teaching and good example will live long in the memories of those who knew her for her sterling growth. The quartette then sang "Sometime We'll Understand." Dr. Jacobs Then delivered a brief funeral sermon in which he extolled the virtues of the deceased as he knew them during his short residence in Clearfield. 280 | Clifford "Coke" E. Aikey July 22, 1925 - July 21, 2023 Bellefonte, Pennsylvania - Clifford "Coke" E. Aikey, 97, of Bellefonte, passed away on July 21, 2023, at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College. Born on July 22, 1925, in Kane, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late William Clifford and Laura (Griffith) Aikey. On April 21, 1948, he married the love of his life, Sarah C. (King) Aikey, who preceded him in death on May 25, 2019, after sharing over 71 years of marriage together. Coke was raised in Curtin, PA, and attended the Curtin United Methodist Church. During World War II in 1944, he was drafted into the United States Navy and served on the USS LST 742 in the Pacific Theatre. He was honorably discharged and returned home in 1946. Upon returning from the Navy, he attended Williamsport Tech/Trade School (presently Penn College). His strength was that he could listen to an engine and tell you exactly what was wrong with the car! He later worked at, and retired from, Titan Metal/Cerro Copper and Brass of Bellefonte. It was during this time that he rekindled his friendship with Sarah, which would lead to their marriage in 1948. He is survived by his daughter, Pamela M. Aikey of Bellefonte, as well as his beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Earl Aikey (Ida), and Joseph Ronald Aikey (Liona), and sisters, Lois Fisher (Merrill), and Marian Myers (Robert). Clifford, or "Coke," was always fairly well known in the area. Some called him Mr. Aikey, others referred to him simply as their favorite bus driver, some called him Clifford, Uncle Coke, or just Coke. Regardless of what others called him, he was known by many and loved by all! Coke loved to travel. In addition to the numerous family vacations over the years, he attended the World's Fair in New York City with his family in 1964. He and Sarah also attended many Navy/Shipmates meetings throughout the years. His shipmates became family to him while in the Navy and he was able to keep in touch with one another after returning home. In 2019, Coke and his daughter, Pam, traveled to Evansville, Indiana, to see the LST-325, which is the last remaining LST of its kind. There have been many WWII veterans visit the LST throughout the decades, but never a WWII veteran that had actually served on an LST…until Coke! He was honored by the LST Memorial Organization and awarded a medallion for his service. The organization then graciously asked Coke if he would lead the tour of the LST. Additionally, he loved going to the Grange Fair and was an avid fan of Penn State Football and the Pittsburgh Steelers. More than anything, he loved the time spent with his family and his beloved dogs. A Celebration of Life for Clifford "Coke" E. Aikey will be held later in the fall of this year. The date and time for the service will be announced in the coming weeks. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Clifford to the Greater Buffalo Run Valley United Methodist Church at 1667 Buffalo Run Road, Bellefonte, PA 16823. | Aikey, Clifford E (I14035)

His first wife, who was a Miss Miller, died leaving two children, and he afterward married Miss Catherine Neff, a native of the Bald Eagle Valley, who died at the age of eighty-five years. By this last union there were eleven children, among whom was a son, Jacob, Jr., the father of our subject, who was born January 19, 1819, and lived in Howard township until recent years, having now retired to Liberty township, in the same county. In his more active days he was a successful agriculturist, and also took an influential part in local affairs and in the Republican party, serving as school director, overseer of the poor and supervisor. He married Miss Catherine Pletcher, a native of Howard township, and a daughter of Henry and Magdalena (Schenck) Pletcher, who were born, reared and married in Lancaster county, Penn., but located in 1796 upon a farm in Howard township and made their permanent home. Mrs. Catherine Holter died at the old homestead September 9, 1889, aged seventy-four years, six months and eighteen days. She was a devout Christian, and for forty- nine years had been a member of the Mennonite Church, to which her husband has belonged for about fifty years. To Jacob Holter, Jr., and his wife, Catherine (Pletcher), were born children as follows: (1) Joseph L., a resident of Howard, married Martha Kaup, and has one child - Anna J. (2) Henry C. is our subject; (3) Michael P., a carpenter at Howard, married Susan B. Schenck, and seven children were born to them - Minnie M., Lydia J. (Mrs. Pletcher), Charles E., Albert L., James A., Samuel B., and Herbert J., who died September 28, 1895. (4) John B., a stone mason and plasterer, of Howard, married Carrie B. Smith (no children). (5) Magdalena died in 1852. (6) Catherine M. married Isaac Williams, a barber at Eagleville, Penn., and has had eight children - Harry G., Shuman S., Eliza C., Henry S., Dela, Frankie, Laura and John J. (7) Nancy J. married Albert Schenck, a farmer of Liberty township, Centre county, and had seven children, all yet living - Carrie, May (Mrs. Coder; she has two children - Albert and Reynold), Elsie, Wilber, Catherine, Irvine and Viola; Mrs. Nancy J. Schenck died March 11, 1893. (8) Christian died in infancy. (9) Jacob S., a plasterer at Howard, married Mary E. Miller, and has one child - Sherman M. (10) Mary A. married Bower Schenck, a farmer of Liberty township, and they have three children - Charles, Morris and Lydia. (11) Susan E. married J. Z. Loder, of Howard, and they also have three children - Joseph M., Mary B. and Mabel E. The subject of our sketch was born September 21, 1843, and remained at the old home in 316 COMMEMORATIVE BIOGRAPHICAL RECORD. Howard township, Centre county, until he was about nineteen years of age, assisting in the farm work and attending the neighboring schools. He displayed decided mechanical ability, and making choice of the carpenter's trade began an apprenticeship in 1862. The "dark days" of the Rebellion were drawing on, and every loyal man felt the prompting within to aid as he could in the preservation of the Union. Young as he was, Mr. Holter left the carpenter's bench after six months of his apprenticeship had passed, and went to the front as a member of Company D, 45th P. V. I., under Capt. Austin Curtin. He continued in the service until the army was disbanded, and received but one wound, and that a slight one, although he saw much severe fighting, especially in the battles of the Wilderness, Spottsylvania, Bethesda Church, Cold Harbor, North Anna, the long struggle before Petersburg and the final combat with Lee's forces. He was mustered out July 17, 1865, but he has since been for some time a member of the 46th Regiment Pennsylvania Militia. In 1876 he joined Centre County Veteran Club. On his return from the war Mr. Holter resumed his work as an apprentice, and completed his preparation for his trade, which he has since followed successfully, six sawmills being among his list of large buildings constructed. In 1876 he added undertaking; and in this branch of work he formed a partnership in 1892 with J. H. Schenck. Mr. Holter is highly esteemed in business circles, but his popularity does not end there by any means. To mention the various offices which he has held would be to enumerate all the important places on the local ticket. He has been school director nine years; town councilman six years; overseer of the door [poor] two years; chief burgess one term; assessor one year; county collector two years; supervisor one year; and for three years was secretary of the school board. He is a prominent member of the Grand Army Post, No. 262, at Howard, and served five years as commander and three as adjutant. He also held the leading offices in the Patriotic Order Sons of America before their disbandment. While he is not identified with any Church, he gives generous support to all religious and philanthropic enterprises. On June 30, 1868, Mr. Holter married Miss Mary E. Hall, who was born June 30, 1849, the daughter of Robert and Mary (Armegast) Hall, natives and lifelong residents of Union township, Centre county. Mr. and Mrs. Holter have a bright, clever family of children. The eldest, Daniel W., born April 26, 1869, is at home; Frank E., born February 11, 1872, died May 5,1874; Nannie K., born January 16, 1874, married Lot Thompson, of Liberty township, Centre county, and their children were - Annie M., born June 2, 1895, died November 23, 1895; George C., born June 21, 1896; and Clarence Cameron, born December 1, 1897; Lizzie M., born August 1, 1875, is a successful school teacher, and resides with her parents; John S., born March 7, 1877, is an intelligent young man with fine literary taste, and is now employed as clerk in the "Syracuse Hotel" at Howard; Robert B., born January 19, 1879, is at home; Ella L., born May 23, 1881, died March 13, 1897 (She was a member of the M.
