1209 | Richard “Rich” A. Kelley, 56, of Howard, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024, at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College. Born on Feb. 3, 1968 in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Richard “Dick” McKivison Kelley and Beatrice (Alterio) Kelley, and stepmother, Shirley Owens Spicer Kelley, who survives at her home. On Oct. 26, 1996, he married the love of his life, Teresa K. (Yarrison) Kelley, who survives at home after sharing 27 years of marriage together. Rich was a 1986 graduate of Bellefonte Area High School. Following high school, Rich attended Williamsport Area Community College where he obtained his EMT-Paramedic certification. During his high school and college years, Rich worked at Bonfatto’s and the A Plus minimart. Following graduation from college, he started his EMS career at Lock Haven Hospital. Over the years he worked for Poly Clinic Hospital, Lewistown Hospital (Medic 89) and Fame EMS. He joined Mount Nittany Health as a paramedic in 1991. His career would allow him to take the position as the Emergency Medical Service Manager at Mount Nittany Health. Rich’s time and dedication to the profession was unwavering for over 30 years, leaving an undeniable impact on the entire Emergency Service community. Rich dedicated his life to serving others in various capacities; he led the Emergency Preparedness Committee, served on the Centre County Public Information Working Group and was a leader of the Keystone Healthcare Coalition and the South Central Mountains Healthcare Coalition. In the years prior to serving as the EMS Manager for Mount Nittany Health, he served as the EMS clinical supervisor for Mount Nittany Medical Center. Additionally, he had previously served as the Centre County Coroner. Actively involved with the Logan Volunteer Ambulance Service, Rich was instrumental in the transition of it becoming a paid service, which is now Bellefonte EMS. Following the transition, he was hired as the operations director of Bellefonte EMS. He was also assistant manager at Alpha Community Ambulance Service (now Centre Life Link) EMS, as well as a flight paramedic for Life Flight, STAT MedEvac and Hershey Life Lion. Rich has served as vice president of the Centre County Ambulance Association, and was a member of the EMS committee of South Central Mountains Regional Task Force, Regional Medical Advisory Committee, the Regionals Leadership Committee and the Central District Firemen’s Association. His dedication to helping others didn’t stop with healthcare, as he also volunteered with the Howard, Logan and Undine Fire Companies. He also had a drive to help others find their niche within the field of emergency services, serving as an EMT/EMR instructor. Rich and the Mount Nittany Health EMS department were honored with the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline EMS Silver Award, for exemplary work in compassionate patient care. In recognition of his personal dedication, he was also awarded the Jack Williams Award given by Seven Mountains EMS. In addition to his wife, Teresa, and stepmother, Shirley, he is survived by his four children, Hayley, Caleb (Carissa Watson), Zachary (Emma Bird) and Hannah, all of Howard. Also surviving are his sisters, Tracy Leitzel (Greg) and Joy Long (Brian), both of Millheim; stepbrothers, William Spicer (Erdean), of Bellefonte, Rick Spicer (Suzi), of Port Matilda, and Robin Spicer, of Jersey Shore; stepsisters, Deborah Rondini (Evo), of Harwinton, Conn., and Carol Spicer, of Milesburg; his mother-in-law, Oneida Yarrison, of Howard; a brother-in-law, Terry Yarrison, Jr. (Tracey), of Howard; and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by stepsisters, Patricia A. Cowan Spicer, Ethel Marie Kramer and Cynthia Lutz; and his father-in-law, Terry Yarrison, Sr. Rich was an active member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Howard, where he was serving on the Church Council. Additionally, he was a member of the Bellefonte Elks Lodge #1094, the American Legion Post #33 in Bellefonte, the Clarence Moose Lodge #1565 and the VFW Post #8269 in Howard. He was also a part-owner of the Twin Oaks camp in Snow Shoe. While much of his time was spent inside, either working or volunteering, Rich was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed going to camp with the other co-owners, going on camping trips (and meticulously documenting each and every one in his many “Camping Journals!”), hunting and vacations with his family. Every year, nearly without fail, he eagerly awaited and looked forward to being able to take his family to ride ATVs on the Rails to Trails in Snow Shoe, attend the PA Farm Show, Outdoor Show and camp for the week at the Grange Fair. While he lived to put others first, his family was what truly brought Rich the most joy. He was a man who wore several different hats in his life, but the first time he held each one of his children, everyone knew that the “Dad Hat” would always be Rich’s favorite! From sharing coffee breaks at work and the Ramey Poker Runs with Hayley, helping then-14-year-old Caleb bring in his very first buck out at camp, spending countless days fishing at the lake with Zach or going for car rides with Hannah and their trusty canine co-pilot, Oakley, — no matter if the moments were big or small, he wouldn’t have traded any of them for anything. Though he was dedicated to others and serving his community, he was humble beyond words regarding his own accolades. The same did not apply when it came to his family. Whether cheering from the sidelines, gripping the door handles as he helped to teach his children how to drive or swelling with pride as they followed in his footsteps and joined the local fire companies, he didn’t miss a chance to brag about any of them! A loving husband, devoted dad, loyal brother, and faithful friend, colleague and mentor, Rich leaves a void that cannot be filled. A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2024, from 4-8 p.m., at Lambert Hall, 303 Forge Road, Bellefonte. An additional viewing will be held at Lambert Hall on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Funeral services will begin at noon with Pastor David Pencek officiating. 1212 | Robert "Bob" Eugene Bittner, 86, of Bellefonte (originally Howard, Pa) passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at Centre Care Nursing Facility. Bob was born a twin to Richard C. Bitner in Lock Haven on November 28, 1935, the son of the late Russell Neese and Kathleen Stiver Bittner. He married Shirley Elaine Confer who has passed. Bob graduated from Lock Haven High School class of 1953. He then began delivering milk of Confer’s Dairy to everyone in the surrounding area of Howard. Confer milk bottles are a pride possession of the family for this reason. Bob also proudly served in the National Guard. Bob then began selling prudential life insurance going door to door throughout the town. As if he didn’t know the ins and outs of every road in Centre County well enough, he took up a school bus driver job as well. Bob drove school bus for his brother’s Bitner Busing Company (eventually sold to Susquehanna Transit) for 42 years. He drove the parents of kids to and from school on the bus. That’s how long he drove bus for. Bob could always be spotted in his “Bitner’s Busing” windbreaker as well matching hat. Bob knew the name of almost everyone in Centre County at one point in his life. Finally, he fully retired at age 82 on November 20, 2018. As a hobby with his wife Shirley, Bob owned the Howard Homestead Bed & Breakfast which took place in his 5-bedroom home in Howard, Pa. The first home in Howard to get electricity! Shirley and Bob welcomed so many people into their home during times of need - strangers and family members. Together, Shirley and Bob also found a love for camping. Their most prideful camping site was the Centre County Grange Fair where they stayed for 2 weeks every year surrounded by all of their friends and family. Even though Bob didn’t make it to the fair this year, the Bittner’s camper is currently at the Grange Fair right now. In Bob’s spare time with friends and family he was notoriously known for his strategy in card games - specifically Rummy and Sequence. Bob never raised his voice, even in the most necessary situations where he could and possibly should have raised his voice. The one exception being during his intense card games where his opponent was getting too close to taking the win. Bob was the most family-dedicated man you would ever meet. The amount of time, effort and love he put into his family will never be able to be matched. Everyone who knew Bob knew that they were loved by him. Bob made the BEST ham for every holiday. Turkey on thanksgiving? No way! Always Bob’s ham. Everyone would look forward to the holiday simply just for his ham (specifically those strings!!). Bob spent years visiting his wife Shirley in the Centre Crest Nursing Home every single day. Bob did not miss maybe all but one single day going to the nursing home to eat dinner with his wife. After selling their home in Howard, the Bittner’s moved to Bellefonte next door to their daughter, Jennifer. Bob visited with Jennifer and all of her family including their dog that he loved so very much day in and day out. In the later years of his life, Bob religiously called his daughter Beth every single night before bed to talk for hours. Bob was a very quiet and laid back man for the majority of his life until these nightly talks where he began to talk for hours and hours and hours. All in good spirits with so much love, of course. Bob is survived by one of his two daughters; Jennifer (Michael) McCartney of Bellefonte, brother; Don Bittner of Texas, sister-in-law; Barbara (Tom) Davidson of Bellefonte, sister-in-law; Donna Bitner of Blanchard, foster son; Russell Hearn of Howard, four grandchildren; Karri Weaver (Jason Neidig), Clint (Nina) Weaver, Chelsea Weaver (Elam Lapp) and Angelica Bryan as well as 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchild. Bob is preceded in death by his twin brother Dick Bitner on May 16, 2009, wife Shirley Bittner on August 3, 2020, and his daughter Beth (John) Bryan of Altoona on January 23, 2022. Bob lived one of the best lives one could ever love! He will endlessly be loved and missed by his family and friends. Family and friends will be received from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 29, 2022, at the Kader-Neff Funeral Home 135 West Main Street, Howard, Pa. 16841. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, August 29, 2022, at the Funeral Home, with Pastor Craig Rose officiating. Burial will be private at the family’s convenience. | Bittner, Robert Eugene (I7098)

1214 | Robert Bower Holter (1879-1913): Bower was a person with poor health. He didn't participate in sports and never got much exercise. He was a brilliant student. He was interested in newspaper work and spent most of his time growing up at the Howard Hustler, the weekly newspaper. He spent much of his time with church work. He also worked with the county papers, Democratic Watchman, Gazette, Centre County Republican and Crntre Democrat. He was well liked by every person. He married Julia Steele of Bellefonte and they had two children, William and Daniel. William was a very smart youngster. Uncle Sherman, your grandfather's brothe, came to our house every day and William would crawl up on his lap. He could count the buttons on his sweater before he was a year old. He wore a brace on his leg and drug it along instead of making a step. He died when he was 5 or 6 and they discovered his hip was out of joint. I don't know why the doctors couldn't discover it. Daniel had a radio and T.V. shop in Bellefonte from which he is now retired. He was a very good merchant. If you ever want to know anything about the Holter family, ask him because he kept records for years. Bower established a play banking system, which we mostly played after Sunday School. You couldn't play unless you went to Sunday School. There were five boys and Meda to play. Our property was assigned to different ones. The owner had to work it or feed the animals and had to pay taxes on it. For instance, one would own the cow. He had to keep the stable clean and see that the cow got milked. He got paid for this and all things were covered, garden, pigs, chickens, lot. All had an assessed value. For money we had a little printing press with which we printed our paper money.
